Hey, R6 is around 4500 miles now and I want to get another oil change done.

What oil (exact brand etc.. ) is going to be best? I assume semi-synth but what brand is actually best quality?

And should I get a pattern or genuine filter, or is there no difference other than price?

Cheers.

Its a new bike, so go for a genuine filter.

Use whatever oil is in there now. Otherwise a semi syn from any of the big manufacturers will do - castrol, silkolene, valvoline, rock, putoline.

Choose a brand and stick to it.

On a bike like an R6 you should be running fully synthetic.

Robby, I don't know what is in there now, the bike shop done a oil + filter change when I bought it (well, so they say) and no idea what they put in.

Kev, why should it be fully and not semi? I've always used semi in my old ZXR400 but don't really know the difference.

It is a modern high reving engine and fully synthetic will give you better protection.

Ok cool, so what brand is the best?

I've heard some of the higher tarty names aren't actually all that good Confused I think Silkolene is meant to be good? Have been told Rock oil stuff isn't all that great but I really don't know.

If I am spending allot on oil I used to go for mobil 1.

Not sure if you can still get it but that stuff was the best.
