Over the weekend I discovered the pirelli mt43 rear tyre on my dr350 is terrible in the mud so I'm looking for a replacement! I have a pirelli mt21 on the front . My options so far are,
Pirelli mt21 - expensive and doesn't get great reviews
Michelin ac10 - not too good on wet Tarmac
Dunlop geomax 51
Maxxis maxxcross it

I ride about 30% road so does anyone have any suggestions?

I used to use Pirelli MT21s on my XR400R.Good tyres on the road and on the unmade roads around the South-East.But when I bought the KTM it had Pirelli MT83 Scorpian Enduro tyres fitted as standard.I used some old part worn MT21s to run the bike in,but soon placed the MT83s back on once I had done the required mileage.

The MT83s are much like the Metzeler 6 Day Enduro, but are cheaper.Typically,my local Watling Tyres in Swanley fit a set of the MT83s for £95 to loose wheels, which I find is a bargain. The 6 Day tyres were more expensive but effectively the same tyre in all but the name on the sidewall.

I heard that the AC10 was good for the mud.My brother has some on his KTM450 and he says that they compare well to my Pirellis.

I do like the MT21s for a trail bike.

They don't offer the muddy traction of a proper dirt tyre, but are passable on the road.

Basically, the bigger the spacing between the knobs, the better it will do in mud. But, of course; the worse it will do on the road.

Mitas C02 rear and C19 front are good long lasting trail tyres, with plenty of grip in soft muddy terrain.

Thanks for all the replies, in the end I decided to go with the ac10 as that's what people I ride with recommended. However depending on how long it lasts I may go for a Mitas co2 next now you've linked me to some for a more reasonable price Thumbs Up
