Is any of you good folk using this and whats your opinion of it, just used the last of my silkoline lube and need to get another can. Is it as good as it says on the tin, no fling etc?

Cheers.

Yeah it doesn't fling - but it doesn't lube very well either IMO. I got into a heated discussion about it with a guy once who claimed it was so good because it made no mess and he'd used it for x miles with no problems - then a couple of weeks later his chain snapped and holed his engine cases.

I use it if I've just washed my bike as the white wheels at least stay clean for a week, but it's quite expensive so I just use old engine oil the rest of the time which flings everywhere but is free Smile

I use it as well. I was a bit a paranoid about how well lubed it was with it being a dry lube it's hard to tell.
I gave my chain a full clean to other week and I used
Engine oil first then used the worth lube on top and that seems to be holding well. Although its had bugger all use since it snowed so only about 100 miles with it like that.

It's ok I use it a lot but I use it in conjunction with a wet lube, for instance I lube the chain with say castrol chain lube then use the wurth To seal the first and act like a barrier from the rain.

Gear oil will fling like mad best put it onto a warm chain and use a chain wax or dry lube like wurth to try n seal the gear oil from flinging off,but also to keep the chain from degrading with rain etc.

I'm a great fan of Wurth chain lube. It does do what it claims to do on the tin. It's a low build wax lubricant and, unlike oil based alternatives, it doesn't throw itself off the chain and onto wheels, swing arms, exhausts etc.
Why anyone would consider attempting to seal in an application of old engine oil, or similar, with an application of wax lubricant is beyond my comprehension. The two compounds will not adhere.

I've had minimal fling using a toothbrush and a cap full of old engine oil (cap of 2litre oil tub) dip it in, spin the wheel scrubbing it and dipping the brush when its dry. Keep going till its all gone and sorted.

I never see fling, if I do, its only ever 1 or 2 tiny streaks down the sidewall Thumbs Up

Seems to work okay in the summer, but riding in the snow and rain doesn't seem to do it much good.
I've resorted to spray-grease for the wet season(s).

I agree....I used it in the good weather and it was very good, but when the wetter weather got here the chain started to get the odd spot of rust, I keep my bike outside too which doesn't help, it's covered but the damp still gets in and the worth didn't perform so well, this year I cleaned the chain and oiled it for the winter and it still looks like new Thumbs Up

EP90 gear oil has been recommended as a chain lube for years. It's heavy enough to stay put just don't over apply it. Thumbs Up

I find gear oil works great, doesn't really fling if you wipe off the excess.

Thanks folks, scrubbed the chain up properly so it looks ace, followed Paddy's method of using a toothbrush and gear oil which works well as you dont need as much oil as you think. I'll see how it go's now this week, I normally lube the chain every 400 miles or less if it looks a bit dry do you think I'm leaving it to long in between lubes?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Using oil then a spray over it will 'seal' hee-haw. It's only a waste of effort and chain lube.
Wurth works perfectly.
The burst chain is nothing to do with the lube that;s probaly been abuse from before. Smile

I used Profi Dry Lube for years on a 900cc bike with no chain issue. I use it on the CG (when ever it gets an out-dooring).

It won't fling so keeps the chain clean and all the parts around it.

I don't know what scientific evidence there is for using worn out oil as a lubricant either. A chain won't use too much oil in it's life so why not just buy a gallon on new oil? Rather then risk it with contaminated gunk from an engine?

I think its crap and doesn't lubricate anything much really. I've seen a non-abused and well looked Tsubaki chain on new sprockets naff up relatively quickly and the only thing I can put it down to is Wurth Dry Chain Lube. My advice - avoid!!!

Question to those that use it.
Do you apply it when the chain is warm? And does it make a difference?

I'm still using old engine oil and always on the lookout for decent chain lube. Still not tried gear oil, so will have a go.

its a product that is loved or hated IMO, I tried it and did not like it sure it did not fling but it did attract particals of road grime/grit and turned into a grinding paste effectively so for me i will stick to the normal chainlube

Wurth recommend that it is applied after a ride when the chain is still relatively warm. I imagine that the wax flows and penetrates easier with warm surfaces. They also advise against riding for at least 15 mins after application.

I've never experienced that and haven't heard of anyone else that has.

I used nothing but Wurth dry on my chain for 6K miles last year, re applied every week with a "proper" paraffin clean every 1K miles.
I don't know how old the chain is as it was on the bike when I bought it but it still has zero rust and no tight links so it will do for me Thumbs Up

Local bike shop sells it cheaper than Ebay too Wink

I've also found it really good and it has no fling off at all but, as others have said, it's not so good in the wet and we've had a lot of wet weather this year and I've noticed spots of rust appear within a couple of days (my bike's kept outside).

I've gone back to using chain oil for now but, come the better weather (well I can hope can't I Laughing ) I'll go back to using wurths dry lube again.
