Carrying on from the speed hump topic, I wondered what people thought of the rumble strips that you get before roundabouts on duel carriageways and such like?
I personally find them a pain as they make the bike handle badly and I don't feel as in control as normal.
I just wondered what everyone else thought of them?

They're horrible - especially in the wet, it's so easy to have a front end slide when trying to brake on them... Thumbs Down

I hate them.

They've got them coming up to the roundabout in Bracknell and they're really thick. Make your whole front end judder when you really don't need it.

Just another case of road 'designers' not thinking about the requirements of all the different classes of vehicle.

Bendy,

I phoned the Council about those ones in Bracknell, that is the roundabout near the Southern Ind Est?

I said to him that if someone over cooks their speed on a bike down the A329M and tries to stop, they do not stand a chance over those strips! He said they are regulation height and there have been no complaints!

I wonder if they could be responsible if someone does run into trouble there.

They are so over the top!

Yup, that is the exact one.

They are considerably thicker than other ones, the roundabout in slough that has them you barely notice them. That Bracknell one actually shakes the bars.

Chuck me the number, I'll call up and complain as well. Thumbs Up

Post the number here. We can all call, they#ll get so fed up they'll have to do something. Laughing

Its just the council being tight as usual. Not making sure the old paint is burnt off of the road first before painting the new lines, so it just builds up. Evil or Very Mad

The things I find really annoying are the big thick yellow rumble strips they tend to put at the bottom of dual carriageways. Even at 50 - 60mph they are quite worrying, especially on a piece of road near me that undulates all over the place too.

The things start too far away from the island and if you try to slow down where they start you get dickheads sitting right on your tail. They affect the handling far too much for my liking, anything that starts to take control away from me is not good in my book.

Hi

I hate those yellow strips as well. Total pig to brake on.

Probably find the regulations just specify the distance between the lines with nothing specified for the height of the paint.

The other point is that these lines often get closer together so that the driver / rider has the illusion that they are speeding up. Do we really want people to suffer from such illusions so that they no longer trust their senses?

All the best

Keith

Are they the ones that get closer and closer together so that they make you think you are going faster so you slow down more?

If so, yeah, they're really hard to brake on in the wet when they are close together near the junction. Bastids.

Can't say I've ever had any problems with them. The ones I have been over have been relatively flat. I wouldn't fancy trying to brake over some real bumpy ones though. Confused
