Maybe it's just me but over the weekend I'm either out on the bike or reading about bikes on the forums, biking press etc so by the time Monday comes round I want to pop into some bike shops and have a look / sit on all these great bikes that have caught my attention. Unfortunately, all, or nearly all, of the bike showrooms are closed on Mondays. I've lost interest until the following week and it happens all over again!

We have precious few of them up here anyway and you'd think that they could open their doors for a while. And why are so few open in the evenings? Couldn't they have one bod to open up and hopefully make a sale or two?

Some places open Saturdays and have Sunday and Monday off. If they opened Monday I bet they'd need more than one person on. You then run the risk of people coming in and being ignored because the one member of staff is on the phone, so they walk away and tell their friends its a rude shop.

When I bought my first bike they told me I couldn't pick it up on a Sunday or Monday because basically "we're bikers and we want to ride our bikes too"

Seems fair enough to me.

Very Happy

Hair dressers also normally close on Monday as they work Saturday

People are allowed to have a weekend

Retail normally has to open on a Saturday to get trade

So Sunday Monday off makes sense

I'd guess Monday is a slow day and rather than sit twiddling their thumbs the owners spend a day doing the paperwork, sourcing/collecting new stock and so on. How many of your Monday visits would result in you buying a bike?

And they can't ride them on a Tuesday or Wednesday when the recreational roads will be more empty anyway?

As opined elsewhere, dealerships tend to be run by hobbyists. This is fine because all the surrounding ones will be too, so it's not like you have a better choice.

I took a ride up to the Triumph dealer in Wellingborough yesterday to look at the shiny new lifestyle essentials. Maybe we are luckier around here, lots of dealers are open Saturday and Sunday, often with a burger van in the car park. On Yer Bike in Aylesbury can draw pretty big crowds in the warmer months but all they buy is tea and a bacon sarnie.

Thing about this is it does create some sales.
Instead of buying that oil filter online for a couple quid cheaper, you'll pick it up there because you're there anyway. Same with sliders, bolts, bar ends, chainlube etc etc..

That's not factually true. To work alone a company need only show that they have risk assessed someone working alone. It is not illegal in any way shape or form (unless a risk assessment shows that the particular employee would be in danger of course Razz )
