Anyone got this before?
Insured my new bike last week (see sig). All seemed fine. Got a couple of calls from them today though that have made me go wtf?
Basically, you know when you try a bunch of different things on comparethemarket to see how prices change? They appear to get this information now. I've been quizzed on why I took Business use off my quote - I was actually just interested in what it would cost. More bizarrely I tried on street as oppose to garaged - now they've asked me to send a photo of my bike in a garage with the number plate displayed! Shocked Annoying and very odd as I'd need to get the police involved if my garage got broken into (if I wanted to claim) so what use is a picture I could easily fake? Neutral
They're also quizzing me over a non-fault claim I had last year which is kind of fair enough, but they aren't interested in me proving my NCB Confused

TL;DR - Trying to get the best deal on your insurance is apparently monitored. Use as few actual details as you can so they can't work out who you are - different email, change DOB by a couple of days, don't use an actual reg - put the bike type in manually, stuff like that.

STL;DR - Insurance are even shiftier than I thought Thumbs Down

You aren't the first person to mention this, I think this should be stickied to help out the newbs. I'll remember this for getting quotes in the future.

never happened to me, however in the past year or 2 i did read an article that all insurers will share quote information to cross check and keep fraud at a minimum...

on the other hand i think it is to stop "quote manipulation" eg keep changing mileage locks etc to get the price as low as possible, insurance are fucking hawks, anything that is a legal requirement should be provided by a nationalised business

I would be sorely tempted to refer the insurance company to Arkell v Pressdram.

Insurance upped my cars premium because I thought I'd run a quote to see what 6 points, 9 points and a random disqualification would give me.

They upped it to well over 2k, when I questioned they requested a copy of my licence. Laughing

Fucking mental people.

I'm sure they get more info than they need as you agree they can use the info when you click quote me.

If they see multiple quotes then they assume the obvious.
Not really a bad thing as such just a PITA when you get chinned for it.
MCE are the WURSTEST at this. they take all the info you put in the proposal then add and subtract a random amount of info and post it to you as YOUR STATEMENT OF FACT.
Then want you to pay them 30 quid to sort it all out. That's magic.

This hasn't seemed to affect my quotes on go compare, i use my own account and have probably got quotes on 100 ish bikes in the last year or so, even though i have changed millage to see the difference, as well as changing other details.

Before MCE had a proper online payment system they did better than that.
At the time, the website sorted you out, but you had to pay over the phone.

"We'll see if we can match that quote for you."
"But, err, this is the quote from your website, I don't want you to try and match, I want to pay for it!"
"Sorry sir, it seems we can't match the quote."
I ask to talk to a manager.
"Well, I see you've been getting multiple quotes, that messed up the system so it's your own fault."
(With and without business use, different mileages - all legitimate possibilities as I didn't have to use it for business and if I was, didn't have to use it all the time.)
They couldn't even come near to the first quote, apparently.

Bunch of monkeys; and for that I will avoid and advise against using them.

Yes, had this before.

Used multiple comparison sites beforehand for probably 3/4 months just fucking around seeing what bikes I could insure pretending to have a licence ect.

When I called up she sais.. we've got on record 506 quotes Laughing

Nothing happened though. Thumbs Up

It doesn't surprise me that they're doing this. Just another excuse to either try and bump the premium, or refuse a claim at a later date. If they can bump the premium at the front end then they obviously earn more money.

As far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with looking at the difference between 8000 miles and 10000 miles. Or whether you can keep your bike on the drive or whether it would make such a difference that it's worth garaging it. Or whether it would cost much more to have business use. Or whether "Administration Clerk" is cheaper than "Administration Assistant" when they're the same job.

I have also faced the situation where you get an online quote, then when you actually go to buy the policy, the premium jumps.

There are so many tricks out there that you really need to have your wits about you when buying insurance these days.

I changed from fully comp to tpft and they insisted i fill in and return a form they posted me confirming i understood i wasn't covered by damage caused to my vehicle by me Confused

I wrote on the form that I understood that i was only getting the service i'd selected and paid for.

This hasn't happened to me but is interesting to bear in mind Thumbs Up

Often get a few different quotes on same bike, changing the mileage/the security/ the storage - so it's scary to think they could penalise you for it :S

I always run my quotes through under a different name and reg number...and then after ive fiddled about with the quote and got what I want, ill re- enter the details which my correct name etc and take the policy out.

Saves what happened to the op ever happening.

I've always suspected it so only run quotes with fake details and an address a few doors away. See who the best quote is with then run a fresh quote with the right name and address direct from their website.

Oddly I renewed my insurance last weekend and changed the quote many times and my price remained as expected.

For example I originally quoted for a mere 4000 miles per annum, quote was £140 iirc, changed to 5000 pa, quote jumped to £200, changed to 4999 and was price was back to £140.

I always use my reg as for some reason GSXR-750 have so many options its not always clear which you should use.

I agree on not giving the phone number, I don't do that till I buy.

No question yet of altering price - they're simply saying they don't believe me Evil or Very Mad I've been insured for over a week now (since the 14th) and this is the first I've heard so you may yet get a call.

I went through a price comparison site, and put in all the correct details etc (including the fact that I only had a CBT and have had a car license for 14 years). When I got the certificate through, after I'd paid, it stated that I'd had a bike license for 14 years!

I e-mailed them to let them know of their mistake, and was told that all amendments had to be made via telephone (which is charged at a premium rate).

As yet i have not phoned them - technically I have informed them by e-mail that the detials are wrong which I have proof of.

i'd phone them fella, they'll probably try to shaft you if you don't get it corrected.

They probably require you to call for DPA reasons or some policy surrounding them

I've always used fake details, mainly because I assumed the system would remember you'd just done a quote for something slightly different and jack up the price of your current quote to match.

Why not just say it wasn't you? Must have been someone stealing your details.
