Santa might have something in his sack for me. I'll probably just use it as an SSH/squid proxy to stealthify my work browsing, but suggestions would be gratefully received.

If you've got an LG TV you *might* have issues. I can't get mine to work with my LG Tv at all so it's going to be pushed into service as another 1-wire node. Shame really since I wanted to use it as a mythtv playback device Sad

When I'm stealthifying my browsing, I generally just use ssh port forwarding. ssh -D <port>, for OpenSSH and Solaris ssh, acts as SOCKS proxy, configure browser to use it (ideally Firefox with FoxyProxy plugin). I run sshd on a number of servers around the world to get past silly filters (like anti pirate bay, or IP geolocation etc.).

That's what's installed on the card at the moment. I might try openelec or another similar distro.

Mine is "under the tree."

Plan to use it as a basic web server for 2 domains, a WOL device and basically some dodgy little firewall.

Have had mine for about 2 months...it works as a basic web browser at the mo. just built a breakout board for it with plans for using it to automate a drop shot photo rig I made a few years ago to activate a IR gate and fire some flashes.... Droplets use an RGV 250 carb solenoid so need to get my head around python and figure an easy way to time it all with no inbuilt clock!!! Has anyone had a look at the new Pi shop yet?

If it's connected tote network then just install and ntp client.

I have some odd issues with my LG TV as well using Rasbmc.

Turning the device on then changing the HDMI source always caused problems. It'd detect a simplink device and then say no signal. I got in to the habbit of selecting the source before turning it on and it would work ok. Changing channels would be a problem in earlier builds but that's ok now. I haven't tried turning the device on before I select the source for a good while though so not sure if it's resolved.

CEC was very buggy in earlier builds as well but after a recent update it's been pretty solid. Changing sources causes some problems. Have to press the simplink button and confirm and then it will work again.

I do use the Yatse android app as a back up controller and also it makes typing much easier.

Contemplating getting the 512mb Pi as I hear it's much more responsive.

i've a 512 but not used the older one to compare.

I use a wireless mini keyboard/air mouse for mine which works really well with the setup.
