A bird has asked if i can look at her bike tomorrow and try to get it started.
I confess i'm not a regular mechanic, but thanks to you guys i think i've gained just enough knowledge to get by so far.

She has a Ludix ped and i have no experience of peds. She says the problem is that it stalled at a set of lights and wouldn't start again.
She has taken it to a garage and they fitted a new spark plug and told her they can't find the problem, basically taking her for a ride by the sound of it. How hard can it be to get a ped going again?

My plan for 2 hours work tomorrow (unpaid) is:

Strip panels and inspect frame (bike, not the girl)
Re-check spark plug and lead.
Quickly check battery charge.
Check air filter.
Check fuel line.
If time allows, maybe get to the carb.

What worries me is that she has no service manual, has had the bike for a year 2nd hand. I'm also worried about the state of the bike underneath the panels as she doesn't really have the time to look after a bike properly.

I'm hoping it's a simple problem, she says the bike tries to turn over but can't really comment as i've yet to see the state of the problem.
Told her it could be a simple solution or it could be as expensive as a new cdi or a new rectifier or stator.

Any help would be appreciated and will update on developments tomorrow with pics

I would check the following,
Make sure it has a good spark
Fit the spark plug and try to start the bike, if it doesn't start remove the plug and see if it is wet with petrol.

If the spark plug is dry i would strip and clean the carb, at the same time make sure the air filter is clean and dry. Also test the fuel tap, i think the ludix uses a vacuum fuel tap which can fail. There will be two pipes from the fuel tap one vertical and one at 90 degrees if you apply a vacuum to the vertical pipe fuel should drain out of the other. If this doesn't happen check the pipe for cracks if there aren't any the fuel tap could be faulty.

Then reassemble and try again! If it still wont work try partially blocking the air inlet as the auto choke could of failed (although this wouldn't have caused it to stall). If that still doesn't work try putting fresh fuel directly down the spark plug hole.
