Hi all i have a 125cc keeway brought 2weeks ago still running in at 240miles but my exhaust has started to pop when i change up a gear, no problems when changing down gear, Would this be due to something i am doing wrong, I ride carefully trying to keep within the boundrys of running the bike in, is this damaging the bike, Mainly happens going from 1st - 2nd cheers for any help.

A 'popping' in the exhaust on the over-run is usually caused by an air-leak in the system.

Thank you that could be possible because I am having an issue with when i stop at lights when i am in first with the clutch in it is around 3000-3500 instead of 2000 was told on that post it could be an air leak around the carb area would these issues be connected. Thanks again.

Best take it to the dealer as it is under warranty.

Take the bike back under warranty as failure to adress the problem can lead to a damaged exhaust valve.

As Biker7 says, back to the dealer as this could result in too 'lean' a fuel/air mixture and lead to over-heating, in an extreme case a burnt-out exhaust valve or even a holed piston.

When you take it back the dealer will try to see if you are at fault. You just say you rode it like the book says. They have to prove otherwise - don't put any ideas in their head! Trust me on that one - been there, done that!

Just to clarify, it sounds like you have two separate issues, the revs sticking could be several things, as mentioned it could be an air leak before the cylinder, it could be a sticking throttle, or even just a badly adjusted tick-over speed.

As for the popping from the exhaust, again it could be caused by a number of things, it seems odd that it is between gears when accelerating.

[purely speculation from here] I wonder could they both be related as the most simple explanation for the high revs would be that you are riding around with the choke on? I guess this could also cause some popping from the exhaust if it is running rich enough?

Take it in and let them decide. They are supposed to be the experts. After all it's a new bike and should be perfect. If they wriggle a bit you can get cross and say you want it sorted. If they know you are not a push over you can get things done. Anyway, we're all behind you mate - they won't take BCF on - will cost them too much business Very Happy

new bike, running in,even the carb and running gear, not just the engine, silly cable routing or,as on new bikes, cables that settlt in and snag each other, like clutch and throttle, revs rising when on tight lock etc....just trimming in issues, get to dealer, its due some clean oil and filter examination soon so do it now.

You where correct he has taken a look at it he says there are no leaks it will just be a carb adjustment on my service at 400miles just jumping the gun a bit thanks all again for the support and keep this in mind if i do have this issue again.

He said it it will be fine till the service when i am changing down gear to 1st the revs sit at 3000 now and if it let out the clutch slightly they drop back to 2000revs when i pull the clutch in it still sits a 2000 revs (125cc) apparently normal.

Sorry i am new to this so not a clue they have said it is fine they will adjust everything on my first service he has looked at it twice, first time when i went back to get my mate some gloves he looked over it while it was running said that it was looking/sounding good then today about the carb issue and he had the bike running idle (2000 revs) and he said everything was fine. I will take a before photo tonight when i get back to it before my ride home and a photo when i get home just incase i am reading it wrong. Cheers.

There is more than likely an idle screw, wind it out a tiny bit. If you do not know what it is, don't touch anything. Get someone to wind the idle speed screw out a turn. It should drop the revs to a usable standard.

If its round the corner, just nip to him and say "Paddy said the idle is too high, can you drop it down to 1400rpm for me please" Thumbs Up Laughing

When he adjusts it have a look where the screw is - you'll do this yourself soon no problem. The way we learn about bikes is when something needs doing. The next time we say oh yes I know what to do there and so it goes on until you know more than me which is not much really Very Happy
