I love classic cars, bikes, planes etc and have been fancying a modern classic bike such as a bonnaville or thruxton but having an A2 licence I can't test ride them as I'd need them restricting.

Found this:
https://www.brmc.co.uk/reeficlgreen.jpg

Royal Enfield, 50's British bike currently built in India (production moved there in the 60's / 70's) Shifter is on the left instead of the traditional on the right. Essentially a new old bike.

500cc single producing 28bhp so nicely within my A2 limit.

really quite fancy one, just need to find one to test ride.

Plenty of them around, quite cheap too..... For a very good (number of) reason (s).
To get the Enfield experience, just sit on a badly loaded spin dryer at full chat, thats the vibes. Now pour oil over the kitchen floor, thats the build quality. Now turn the lights out and light a match, that's the electrics. Pity the ice has melted, because I would ask you to take a run and then do a slide, that's the brakes.
They don't go fast enough to have handling issues so you are safe enough there.
In summation, an utter pile of antiquated junk.

Just my opinion of course!

You wouldn't need to restrict a Bullet, just a quick google says even the new ones only produce 27-ish horsepower.

I'f I had the resources and time, i would much rather buy an old single pot Jap bike, and build a machine that deliberately looks old and classic, but that says Honda, Yamaha etc on the engine cases.

I've seen a couple of CB250RS Honda's that have been re-built with frame mods and features such as girder forks, pluger style rear ends and old tanks and mudguards etc made to fit.

The Indian Bullet is ok i suppose, but you really would want the real thing for the Kudos and the appreciating value of 1950's-60's British bikes.

The good thing about the Indian Enfield, is that it's a big sturdy looking frame, and is such probably a good base for those wanting to do a home made diesel bike build, with a small industrial engine.

Cool, you have a 35kW license obtained on or after the 19th of January 2013 on a 395cc+ bike making between 25 and 35kW and no more than 0.2kW/kg?

<takes breath>

You have an "A" license with a 2 year restriction to 25kW and 0.16kW/kg.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that you might as well ride whatever the fcuk you like, because the system is confusing and idiotic and the chances of you being caught, prosecuted and convicted are as close to nil as makes no difference.

Enfields have the classic look, but the sound seriously disappoints.

Velocettes on the other hand rattle the tiles off of nearby roofs.

Enfield Bullet stuff .

There seems to be quite a few around (around here anyway).

I`m sure the new ones will have had some of the problems sorted out??? possibly? maybe?.
I`ve never seen one sitting on the side of the road?

I would`nt be adverse to having one of them.
Mind you that does`nt mean a lot, after all I own a Jawa ? Shocked

If it were me, I'd look for a low mileage example of one of the "classic" engine bullets they were making until a few years back. So no fuel injection, points ignition and a seperate engine and gearbox.

It's a 1950's engine design made to 1950's spec in India.

The "new" EFI models are a modern engine design made to 1950's build standards in India. You can see where this is going...

Both will break down. You can fix pretty much anything on the former and are more inclined to be forgiving of their faults.

Neither are quick. Really not quick. My 350 bullet is considerably slower than most 125s.

The build quality and material quality control is non-existant.

Parts are freely available. Upgrades are widely available.

I am particularly liking the 40bhp "GP" kit that's being made by Hitchcocks motorcycles. Basically buy a second hand 500 bullet and drop the purchase price of a new one in parts onto it. 40bhp out of a 612cc, aircooled, longstroke single equates to a fully respectable level of performance even by modern standards. I bet it sounds utterly fantastic.

So. Want of the day:

An acquaintance of mine has just purchased an Enfiled Bullet for £5k (like the one below but in blue). An did 200 miles total round trip at the weekend to Bournemouth for his dinner.

He's also got one similar to this can't think what it is at the moment I know it's a 350 with the panniers at the back. Sounds nice and is a real stunner in person.
