At what temperature would you consider going for a hoon in, providing it's dry? I've been riding like a snail for the last few months, and in that time I don't think I've took a bend properly over the speed limit due to it either being wet, or too cold therefore no confidence.

Well... I think above 15 degrees is alright for a hoon. Dry though

I've gone for a hoon when there is four feet of snow at the side of the road.

The temperature is largely irrelevant, it's the state of the road that's more important. You can have it utterly freezing but have a clean, dry road. I've seen that with it well into minus figures.

You need to watch sometimes because the stones in the road surface can become polished by salt and tyres and land up like glass despite looking clear. There's a particular sort of powdery sheen on the surface you need to watch out for.

I'm generally comfortable at 10C or more, any less and my hands start to freeze yet my body is warm.
In other words i need better gloves than my current Aldi specials.

It's fine right now. I've been having fun even in the rain/slightly cold, getting the same lean angles as I was getting in the summer.

It's not unless you're going seriously quick or seriously pushing the bike to its limits that you need to worry about perfect conditions.

I'm not good enough to go super fast, so it's fine for me.

About now really - the sun is starting to pop out a bit more and it's slowing getting lighter/drier.

Agree, today the road is drying in sun and wind and it's just the sort of day I would go out for a couple of hours.
50mph gusts are not fun though.

Yeah today is a tad windy. Laughing

Decided to put all the parts for my CBR on my nice new shiny credit card as I don't want to miss out on sun fun. Mr. Green

As Stinkers says, In the minuses is still good if sunny and dry.
Be on the look out for trees and other shaded part of road as they may not get any sun so can still be wet and icey.

After rain when all the council's salt has been washed off and before it's re-applied is bestestest.

Let the tyres warm up for a bit longer too.

Layer and tea stops and you can have a brill buzz for the few hours of daylight available.

Out of interest is there an optimum air temperature for maximum speeds?

Daylight? I do all my riding at night. Laughing hoon is all the time, no matter what. Rain, wind , day or night. If the tarmac is okay it's all good. I'd be a little bit worried if it was covered in snow and ice though, but then i'd be tempted to leave the bike alone.

This. When Mr Yaigi and I were in Greece we hired a motorbike. Lovely hot weather, you'd think the roads would be fine, but he said when coming to a stop at junctions his feet were sliding, it was like being on ice. The road surface looked fine from afar but when you really looked at it, wear and tear had just polished it up!

More oxygen in cold dense air which will let the engine burn more fuel.
But then you'll be pushing through thicker air.
So maybe not a max.

Fast riding is easier if you are comfortable. If you're cold you won't have the reactions to compensate for changes in position etc. so it can cause more fatigue.

I've been enjoying the last week. Mostly at night when the rain has stopped and I have finished doing my work and college stuff. Today was the first time after work it has actually been dry on the roads, so I've been blasting about for the last hour and half.

I'm riding to work in the temps we have ATM in Jeans a t shirt and a jacket.

If I wanted a hoon I'd go out in any temp as long as it is dry.
