What does the temperature gauge say?

Post what it reads / shows ?

If its overheating STOP riding it or you could risk warping the head which then cause low compression which will then equal, spluttering / losing power, basically " death "

They are Air cooled, so don't have a temp gauge.

They also don't have a cylinder head IIRC, it's just a "sock" type barrel which bolts on as a unit. I could be wrong though.

Edit: The above is total bollocks, I'm getting confused with another scooter.

Either way, in this weather, I find it highly unlikely an air cooled T.A.G is over heating, unless the cooling fan is broken, or it is running excessively lean.

It sounds more like a fueling issue to me.

Can you elaborate on the behavior any more? You say it splutters and looses power?

If these engines get too hot, they generally don't splutter, they just go tight, and struggle to rev, and eventually nip up.

Oh really, so effectively running right and treated right their more reliable binge ?

Chances are it could be something simple, could be blocked air filter, may be dirty, also could be jets part blocked, so first thing I would do is, go back to basics, whip plug out, check for nice blue spark, check air filter if dirty clean it, put it back together ( test ride )
If that still hasn't cured it, time for a carb clean.

There's just nothing to a Zip engine, it's not even injection or anything.
The above suggestions are a good first point of call. It wont be anything serious.

^^ seek a workshop.

Op, when my coil failed it was what you describe. But start small and figure out your issue, dont throw parts at it. If your auto choke has failed similar things will happen.
