Sold some fishing reels outside of eBay for £200 through bank transfer. I sent them off recorded and insured delivery through Parcel Monkey (DX courier). A couple of weeks later he still hadn't received them so I e-mailed Parcel Monkey and they said they were "left safely in the porch". He says his house is right behind a bus stop (I confirmed on Google Street View) so any passerby could have took them. But also he didn't receive a letter through the door saying it had been left, so potentially it wasn't even delivered in the first place.

Where do I stand in getting the money back? Obviously £200 is a lot of money to lose. Would the insurance cover it?

It's recorded, and insured, thus it will cover up to the limit you insured it for. Did you make sure the limit was adequate to cover the loss?

if they were left in the porch then they weren't signed for, thus the delivery company is still responsible for them. Can they prove they delivered to the correct address?

thats how I view it anyway

Ask them to pay up, but I hope you upgraded the basic £20 loss coverage.

Leaving the item in the porch totally defeats the object of a 'signed for' service Rolling Eyes The problem is with some of these cheapo courier companies is that the employees only get paid if the parcel is delivered...

When I worked for Hermes you were not allowed to leave a 'signed for' parcel, of course they were perfectly happy for you to try umpteen times to get a signature as it didn't cost them anything Smile

Recorded goods shouldn't just be left that's the whole point of them being recorded so you get signature confirmation, they are responsible.
