I have never owned two bikes at the same time before now. Well I don't own the DR anymore I'v signed it over to my lodger with the understanding that I can use it anytime I need to till he starts paying for it in 3 months time.

Anyway, it has been a complete life saver having another bike I can just jump onto while mine is off the road waiting for a new front brake disc. I'm now thinking about buying a cheapish bike to store in the shed just in case mine needs to come off the road again.

I'm thinking about a CG/YBR or something along them lines. I'm hoping my 8 month old vada won't be ever be off the road ever again but it can't hurt having a back up plan.

I'm traveling 30ish miles to work atm. I'v saved loads on taxi's by having use of another bike. How many of you guys have a 2nd bike?

Tbh I was thinking about a 250 as they tend to be cheaper then a 125 and it should still fit in my small brick shed.

Found some 250s are more to insure than the 400.

I have access to 4 bikes currently and a car. I think I'm gonna use the Vara as my main and then the Bandit 400 as a back up.

Getting a 400 would be a smarter option if you decide that you want to take a motorway without straining the shit out of the 125.

If you get more than one bike , you will be doomed Shocked for the rest of your life Shocked .
When I started out on bikes, I only wanted/needed one
Then I thought Hmmmm? "two bikes?, and I was doomed!

I have always had more than one bike and all the costs and heartache that goes with it Smile .
You can only ride one bike at a time? I think? .

What I have done is have an older scruffier bike as my run-around and keep the good bike for runs/tours/showing off.

Having more than one bike is a disease that gets you and wont let go Shocked .
Save yourself or you could end up like me and have a garage full of bike shite that you will never use.

Seriously if you are getting a second bike , be disaplined and dont get some SUPER-WHIZZ that "just needs rebuilding" before you can use it as you know it will just go rotten at the back of the shed before you fix it Crying or Very sad

My bandit is smaller than the Varadero, about the same as a CB250.

It is tiny, a VFR400 is the same as a CBR125 Laughing

If the Varado 125 is you pride and joy and shiney nice day pose tool, then i would personally get something smaller and shitter for the back up bike. If you buy a decent 250 or 400cc, then are you ever realistically going to use the Varado again out of choice?

I'd forget newish and popular 125's due to the high demand, and fashion for flashy stuff. Instead i'd either get a C90 if you can find one, or better a 100cc 2smoke bike like an awesome little RXS, H100, KH100 etc. These will be a good simple and cheap back up bike, and something you can mess around with and tune the shit out of when you get bored one random day and need something to do.

The other alternative type of bike is a secondhand off roader with the bare minimum of road legal equipment and comfort. If you get an old enduro bike with basic lights and electrics, and big knobbly tyres, the chances are you won't want to ride it to work every day in town etc. So your main bike will still be useful and preffered, and when or if something happens then you'd can drag you off roader out the shed and take it to work. The chances are it will be at the front of the shed anyway if you've got access to any decent off roading routes locally at the weekends! Laughing
