I noticed recently more and more motorcyclists/cyclists seem to be wearing helmet cams. Are insurance companies so tight that they need video/photo evidence before they even consider paying up even if the fault rests on the shoulders of the other driver ?

What do you think should motorcyclists wear a helmet cam and record all the time ?

Are they really worth because if you crash then theres always the possibility the video is destroyed ?

No a £200 accessory shouldn't be compulsory. Gear, petrol and maintenance costs are too high anyway.

Okay, I might get a better chance at an insurance claim that has happened to me once in 6 years of riding.

But I won't be riding anymore when a random check reveals I was speeding a bit, pulled a wheelie on a deserted road and filtered the wrong side of an island to get to the front of a level crossing.

I might buy one if I was sensible all the time and it was fitted in the nose cone (as my bike was knocked over once) but in answer to the question no, as these insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying ! Thumbs Down

Cheers

No.

These 'black boxes' GPS systems are coming in quicker and quicker, the future's hardly bright as it is.

The day they make me put that on my weekend warrior will be a... slow one.

It would be great wouldn't it - then they could post all the really really interesting bits, like a car moving 1/4 inch across the lane as they try to filter, and spout endless rubbish to their 180,000 youtube subscribers. YaY

But no.

So wearing a helmet cam purely for evidence gathering if someone were to ruin your day isn't worth the hassle/cost ?

Your making the presumption that the video evidence captured by the camera won't be used against you during a claim/ court.
For example I was in a car once with a mate who caused an accident, it was his fault. But due to 0 witnesses the blame was spilt 50/50 between both parties. Just imagine if their was video evidence? He would of been screwed.

Question about the blackbox.

Say you pay for annual cover upfront. Then you go on to ride like a nob always exceeding the speed limit 70% of the time, what will happen?
I can imagine them increasing your premium come renewal, but could you just go elsewhere for insurance with your ncb which you may have gained from the previous policy?

NO! My early morning trip down the motorway sometimes merits speed that a judge who got out of the wrong side of bed that morning would put me in prison for. If I got caught.
