 |
|
I've not had my Varadero a year yet, but, having got my license just before Christmas, I'm getting a bit bored of it's abilities, to get anywhere around here you end up on A roads going up hills, both regular and dual carriageways, some places around here, you've got to use the motorway.
To get to some of the jobs I've been applying to, it would involve using the M60 Ring, which while the Varadero will cope, it probably won't enjoy doing it daily if I do end up commuting that distance on motorways.
I don't have any money to put towards another bike, only what I can get for mine (most recent dealer value was £1600)
So, for that money I need to get a bike, insure it and put a restrictor kit in it. Careful choice, and checking insurance before purchase should allow the cost to be covered by buying a £1000 bike, persuading the dealer to put a restrictor in as part of the deal, and cover insurance with the change, and hopefully buy a top-box for it too!
Thanks to all who helped with suggestions in the what bike thread.
The other option is to wait, see what happens employment-wise as I might be able to do the commute on my bike for a while and then save up and get something I want instead of what I can afford.
what would you do? ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Sell the Vara privately for way more than a dealer will offer, buy a sensible 500-650 bike, print off a PaddyCerttm totally officially legally restrict it with all the forms completed in triplicate. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Suck it up for a while, especially if you've not any idea of what/where you'll be working.
A 600-ish (bandit/fazer/hornet/whatever) is much happier at M-way speeds, but costs more in petrol, tax, insurance, tyres etc etc. You'll almost certainly end up with an older bike that needs more (and more expensive) maintainence and if it does turn out to be the wrong thing, or that you didn't need the M-way stuff after all, or if no job comes along and you find it hard to run the bigger bike, you may be cursing.
Or just say fuck it, swap to the bigger bike and pin the throttle
Chances are it won't make that much difference to anything but M-way safety and the size of your grin ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

If you go eBay, save yourself some grief and use classifieds, not an auction.
Gumtree is perfectly viable, you just have to grit your teeth and expect a few "swap you it for a truckload of lampshades" offers. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
