Hi all.
I'm still looking for an alternative toy to the ZX6R.
The CRM 250 looks like a fun little thing.
Anyone got.anything to say on them?

Cheers
John

Nice enough nippy little trail bikes - halfway between a proper competition enduro bike and a trail bike like a dr350.

They haven't quite got the zing (in handling, weight or engine) of said competition bikes, but also don't need premixing and have better road manners, while still being more spiritely than the heavier 4 stroke trail bikes.

Some good prices around on them these days.
Of the 2 stroke trail bikes they're one of the better performing choices.

It's going to be mostly for road use - if that helps.
Mostly after something less sporty and more agile than the ZX

You could turn the throttle less and the bars harder on the ZX?

Wink

It's probably not an ideal choice for road use - would make a fun enough little supermoto. Definitely want to go for road tyres at least.
Remember, proper warming up is generally more important for 2 strokes.

The engine is definitely an enduro style one - flatter than many 4 strokes!

I do like the bike, but not sure I'd choose it for a road bike.
If I was going for 'hardcore' I'd go for a 200 or 300 2 stroke competition bike with supermoto wheels.
If I wanted 'useful' I'd go for something like a DR600, DRZ400 or similar.

yes take a look on my site (crm250.com)

better suited to road and light trail, dont let the name confuse you with a CR250 - they are certainly not even close.

capable of being held flat out all day and will nudge 100mph with the right gearing / jockey.
reliable and low revving for a stroker.
swingarm pivots seize, balance shaft bearings can rumble, heavily used off road bikes rot the loom and can have PGM issues and borned out power valve motors with seized cables.
Fork tubes can turn to powder if the outer coating chipped.
Mk2's are cheap as chips and great fun
Mk3 the best of the bunch but comes in some lairy colour schemes.
AR commands big money for a nice one, no "better" than the Mk3 apart from being more complicated, but is the looker and the one collectors want.

I am out at oulton park this friday on my AR and while gets snotted on the straights, it makes a mockery of some other stuff around the corners.

Yup they look like fun!

G - the main reason my ZX is getting second fiddle at the moment is that I moved from city centre to the middle of the woods (literally a log cabin in the woods) about a year ago and the ZX6R is a little scary on the 1/4 mile mudtrack to and from my house. It only gets a chance to be taken out if it's been dry for a day or two so the mud is less terrifying! Smile

In supermoto form, you may not find it much better - a fair bit lighter, but also higher.

In trail bike form it'll be better sure; but not as good on the road.

Taken my zx9 down a greenlane at an ok pace in the past - but it helps having some trail/enduro/motocross riding experience Smile.

It's not been too bad so far - it's mostly when it starts slipping sideways! I just can't afford to replace those plastics if I drop it (I also probably couldn't pick it up on my own!) Smile
