I've got an interview this afternoon for the above,

anyone worked doing this?

What's it like?
Hoping it's not purely commission based, if I'm being paid to stand around trying to sign people up with a bonus for each person, then that's fine, just don't want to be paying to get to work to not earn anything if town's having a bad day!

any advice etc, cheers

at the moment, any money is good money.

I think it will be one of those scammy semi commission based jobs.

Where you HAVE to as part of your contract get X number of people signed up everyday. If you don't then you don't get paid.

Normally its somethings scammy like you have to make enough to cover your pay. Then you get commission bonuses.

Don't hit the sign up targets for a week, P45 time.

I did something similar in the 90s. People will avoid you and as a rookie you'll be sent to the parts of the shopping centre where there is bog all footfall. Or somewhere it is impossible to get people to sign up.

Like in the 90s signing people up to your leccy company. They'd send the green folk to areas filled with prepay meters, i.e. it was impossible to get anybody to sign up because as a condition they couldn't have prepay meters.

I'm aware of that,

I'm also aware that might have to meet targets etc

but I've a house to finish renovating before a baby arrives (7 months) and a new bike I want to buy in hope of commuting to a better job

etc

etc

I figure the only way for this role to warrant existing, from Lovefilms perspective, is if you do sign X amount of people up, given that they must realise that 99.9% of people, if they want lovefilm, they'll look it up, and sign up, online. Therefore they'll only want to pay you if you are bringing the minimum amount of coin in.

Tip: wear a BCF badge so that I don't stamp on your toe too hard when you try to mug me with lies about "high quality streaming" and "ever growing content library". Thumbs Up

Meh, screw the idea of going out of my way. I'll politely say no, less politely if they push the issue. If they try and bodycheck me then good luck to them Laughing

Sounds like soul destroying 'work' good luck with it. Any blaggers of that ilk tend to get me practicing Setswana on them 'til they give up.

This.

Me and a girl sat in the shopping centre watching them, utter pricks who only dared approach young girls on their own that they obviously wanted to bang

Enjoy, it's basically door to door sales without the door

Be careful, isn't there a law or bylaw that says that charity collectors and the like are not allowed to approach people on the street, they have to be approached by the public?

If even KFC and McD won't take you, I'm not sure what choice you have.

It's work I guess, but pray like a bastard that it's not commission only.

Sad

I've shadowed a charity mugger for a day, and its more the practical consideration that you cant follow people about.

You attract their attention and get them to come to you.

Salespeople employed on a commission only basis are not likely to abide by bylaws but they will chase away customers if they chase them down the street.

Unfortunately I suspect that a lot of commission only jobs are a way of avoiding paying minimum wage. Certainly the lad I shadowed who was very good, was not getting minimum wage by the amount he was paid for the time he worked.

It's good to see parasitologists getting out of the lab for a change and studying their subjects in the wild.

Sounds like a waste of time to me. The time would be better spent looking for something with the promise of a future.
