Afternoon all.

Been handed a problem in the form of a first gen TC Helicon "Voicelive" box. Due to a glitch in its current firmware it's playing silly buggers, this is easily resolved by updating said firmware - the only problem is that the bloody thing is refusing to keep a stable connection and let me flash via a USB/MIDI box, even with an incredibly slow transfer rate. I've never dealt with sending a sysex via midi before, how temperamental are these things? Is it pointless even trying without having access to a "supported" midi port?

I've seen mention around and about that the M$ generic drivers are often troublesome and that's what this no-brand box I'm using is running on.

Try installing ASIO4all. https://www.asio4all.com/

Use midi-ox to send the sysex. https://www.midiox.com/

I'm online for a few hours so post back if still having problems.

Cheers. I've been using midi-ox, had totally forgotten about ASIO4ALL, used it for something a while back but I'm buggered if I remember what Laughing

I'll give it a try later, might be tomorrow before I can get to it though. Thanks Thumbs Up

No worries...If you're a regular music noodler it's worth getting a low latency soundcard. The audiophile 24/96 is a good choice.

If you end up out of luck and are in/around East London I have access to various MIDI interfaces at work (university recording studio). We're Mac based and I've done SYSEX dumps with loads of devices in the past. Or you could post it to me and I'll do it, if you trust me Wink

I've had my 24/96 for about 5 years now and have totally forgotten about latency or midi issues. I was plagued with them before I got it and now wonder how I ever managed to make any music at all before I had it.

That's odd, I responded but it disappeared it. Thanks all.

I'm not actually a music type, I got handed the box as I flash and fix a variety of hardware so he thought the problem would be up my street but MIDI really isn't something I use, appears to be remarkably temperamental Laughing

Neil - I may well take you up on that, let me talk to the bloke who owns it. Neither he nor I want to drop a wad of cash on an interface for the sole purpose of updating it, it's used by his band for live gigs so wouldn't otherwise be hooked up to a PC at all.
