It comes to us all that we need insurance, and as G breifly touched on it in his newby FAQ post I thought I would put this one here as well.

The following website is a good starting point for quotes, fill in all the forms for all of the companies and the ones that dont offer instant quotes are the ones who generally come back with the better quote.

https://www.find.co.uk/insurance/Motorbike_Insurance/

By just going through all the companies listed there I halved the amount most companies wanted me to pay.

Happy hunting

Just a thought (I definatly found it to be true):
If you get insurance for TPFT and put the excess up to the value of you bike you effectively have TPO. However I found this often to be cheaper than TPO. So if you are looking for cheap insurance on a cheap bike it is often worth baring in mind.

A small point for insurance.... don't lie. Insurance companies will pounce on anything they can to avoid paying out, so although you can fully comp your bike by claiming you live in Shetland, they'll be unamused when it gets nicked from your doorstep in Brixton Smile

When it comes to insurance...it is vital that you phone as many companies as physically possible.
The more you phone the cheaper it will become.
Its as simple as that.

To start you off, this list may possibly help...

Just a quick note:

Different companies can do good quotes for different people in different situations, so its allmost always worth calling as many different places as possible.

While some companies do do good quotes for a certain situation, ie 'young', unless every detail is the same there's no guarentees that they will give a good quote.

My list of insurance quotes:

With the following details:
ZX9R E1 worth £3500
TPFT

2 Years No claims
No Pillions
Located in Reading (not town center)
Garaged
No commuting
3000 miles per year (I think)
Previous no claims on this/zx6
Held licence for 1 1/2 years.

Remember different companies work betetr with different situations, so just because a company is good/bad for me doesn't mean it will be the same for you.

Internet Quotes:

Most online brokers claim to offer a discount for buying a policy online. This mainly due to the fact that they won't need to pay a sales person any commission for that particular policy. However, due to the nature of these sales "people", they will often go to further lengths than a box of silicone to get you a competitive quote, so it's worth picking up the phone.

Beware of the so-called "Quick Quotes" as they often make too many assumptions, and can lead to unpleasant surprises for some riders. Better to spend a few more minutes to fill in the forms entirely (you will be under no obligation to buy) to get a better idea. Having said that, the final quotes will often be much higher than you should be expected to pay, but you would at least have one quote and reference point.
