At the moment I am keeping my bike at the front of the house, as my lawn is too muddy to store it round the back Mad It has about 4 locks on it and it is covered up, and there is plenty of cctv around as it is in the city centre.

A few minutes ago I opened the front door to do my obsessive-compulsive check on the bike, and what do I come across?

The answer: a scank in a grey Adidas track suit with his hands down his pants checking it over, and his partner in "crime" attempting to hide in a bush next door Rolling Eyes

honestly, did this always happen before the time of the tracksuit?

My local area can be mistaken for an Olympic village at times like there are that many chavs in tracksuits about...

I hate leaving my bike on show at the front of my house for any amount of time for worry of people 'eyeing it up'

They buggered off before I got the chance (not that I am very capable of 'bangin' someone out) Mad Maybe I ought to take out insurance excess cover...or keep the thing in the hallway (not that my mum would be too pleased).

Maybe a rather large stick would would do the trick Confused

I reckon I'd put it round the back and let it get a bit of mud on it.

You can always wash it off.

I'd be chucking a Cyclone V2 on it, chaining it to something solid and waiting for them.

Please tell me you have a ground anchor?

If not, no amount of locks and chains will do any good whatsoever.

Don't ask me how I know. Crying or Very sad

They'll definitely be back the same night or night after, I'd contemplate doing an all nighter and peeping through the curtains...with a baseball bat waiting for them to arrive Twisted Evil

I have an anchor in the garden, but at the front I lock it to the railings. Is this a common way by which these disgusting people steal bikes? Scouting out and then sending the more competent criminals with the tools? I might put it in the house tonight (mother permitting) Laughing

Yes. Or even just coming back themselves later with tools.

Unfortunately if they don't find it one night... what's to stop them coming back another night? They know that it's there now.

Think you need some way to deal with them so they're scared to come back Sad

I suppose I might as well get an alarm system for it. Does anyone know of any good ones?

Depends what you can afford.
The Thatcham approced ones are ok (various makes) and may give you a few pennies (literally) off your bike insurance.

Otherwise the cheaper ones are ok. Do what they say on the tin.

Try motorbikealarm.co.uk for the V2.

I block mine in with a car on a night. As my bike isn't worth that much, the only people who will be interested in nicking it are chavs/scrotes who just want to ride it around for a day and then burn it.

Just got to make it less appealing to nick - more effort than its worth.

Do you live by a Tar Pit or something?

Maybe buy a couple of 2nd hand 4x4 Waffle Boards / Bridging Ladders? two of them cable-tied together would give you a decently strong 4ft x 2ft area.

edit, Tracmat ones are pretty good:
