What he said about hob but the fail safe way to check is to just light it as normal then blow out the flame on the hob.
Does the gas stop or does it continue after you've blown it out?
There's your answer. It's more about prevention of release of gas than anything fire related.
It's to prevent an issue most typically caused by a pans boiling over extinguishing the flame. That's happened to
pretty much everybody who cooks at some time or other.
I'd have him back to do another test personally, at his cost. Just for missing the earth connection. If he's pissy
a call to gas safe with his number should put him straight. It's not something I'd want on any of my paperwork
for a property just in case. Speaking as a landlord, try getting an insurance claim through for any fire or
gas related claim with a doubtful gas safety certificate and you'll definitely end up out of pocket or possibly even in
prison if lives are lost.
Edit- If you are a tenant then as above quite rightly this is your landlords problem. But to a certain extent, it's also
yours to bring any concerns you have with things such as this to them asap so they can deal with it, and record you
have done so if you feel that's necessary. It's very important you can prove communication further down the line if it
goes that far.
Personally I would have been on site while test was conducted anyway I always am whenever I have anybody working
in one of mine. But in any case the landlord should be being more pro-active here if for no other reason than to cover his own arse. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

I got a warning notice that just has a tick box to say "At Risk"
With a single line to say hob satefy switch off and gas meter earth.
House is rented off parents
Ideally, I would have been there when it was done, but one of the other tenants was... I thought you it would be straight forward
I did wonder about the no-flame gas turn off, but the note specifically says it's the lid safety shutoff that's at fault. I read it's to stop glass lids getting hot and shatter...
Definetley going to try and get them back out at their cost... ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

The bonding wouldn't be classified as 'at risk' even if it was missing, on the unsafe situations book it just says to
'Leave a bonding notice informing the responsible person that protective equipotential bonding work should be checked/carried out by an electrically competent person'
They did away with the 'Not to current standards' classification.
The lid shut off could visibly be cutting the flame but perhaps had some let by if he did a tightness test on it. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj
