cable tied to the frame should be fine provding the casing doesnt break down allowing the coil to leak, the self almalgimating tape should be fine too, it help the water proofing of the connector.

if its running well than leave it alone, just kepp a close eye on it.

can you not just solder a new bit of wire in but use heat shrink not tape it will keep the water out better

can you not just solder a new wire onto the little bit of red wire, crimp on a female bullet onto your new attached red wire an be done with it?

also before inserting (steady now) the bullet into the socket, give the socket a bit of a sqeeuze with some pliers to make it a tighter fit when you stick the bullet into it
