How much for a new coil + loom?

The wire came out again I was going to push it back in but thought I'd just call AA as it would only fall out again a mere hundred yards closer to my destination.

The patrol man came very helpful took one look at the coil and said it's f** mess.

I explained the spades connecting are next to useless and fall out.

So he soldered a new piece of wire to the coil and put a crimp terminal on the ignition wire and crimped it cable tied it to the left spade terminal to stop that sliding out and strangled it with white tape.

Not to bad to say it was midnight and I was stuck at the side of the road. Got me home fine appears to be a lot stronger than it was before but it's still only cable tied to the frame which I doubt will protect it from the rain he said the white tape will keep out moisture but I am not convinced as it is facing directly toward the rain. There is minimal play in the wires so it can't be bolted where it should be under tank which is why I may need a new loom.

Please advise what should I do take it to the shop or see how long it lasts?

cable tied to the frame should be fine provding the casing doesnt break down allowing the coil to leak, the self almalgimating tape should be fine too, it help the water proofing of the connector.

if its running well than leave it alone, just kepp a close eye on it.

can you not just solder a new bit of wire in but use heat shrink not tape it will keep the water out better

I have protected it with old milk bottles tied to the frame looks shabby but better than bunny hopping down the road in the slight bit of rain.

how meny wires are there ?

and how good are you with electrics?

Two ignition wires going into the coil and the brown earth bolted on one of the ignition wires has a piece of wire soldered into the coil now held on to the ignition wire with a bullet terminal.

I'll get pictures now.

Also I am a DIY novice.

This is what state it is now.

Messy I know I think it needs a new loom and coil all together there's a wire soldered into the coil on with of the connectors with a bullet connector on the end.

The red wire is the problem the female connector just won't stay on it's been cut back so much there's hardly no wire left.

Most it has stayed on is a week bumps in the road obviously make it come out no matter how hard it's crimped.

As it stands it's completely knackered at the moment waiting for the shop to pick it up I could try repair it myself but in the long run will come out again.

So how much is it likely to be for a new loom and coil plus fitting?

I am hoping it's warranty work. Seeing as he made it like this in the first place.

can you not just solder a new wire onto the little bit of red wire, crimp on a female bullet onto your new attached red wire an be done with it?

also before inserting (steady now) the bullet into the socket, give the socket a bit of a sqeeuze with some pliers to make it a tighter fit when you stick the bullet into it

Ok so if I get it back from the shop and he has just sealed it in cable tied it to the frame what are you going to do what is different?

Thanks for the offer Paddy but no need now I managed to get it running and took it straight through to the shop so otherwise I would have been waiting while back end of next week.

The issue is still not fixed however he's done pretty much what I did just better and cable tied it to the frame. I told him unless fixed properly I will keep bringing it back bothering him.

He agreed should be fixed right with a new harness so I am taking it back in a week Monday for him to take pics and put in a warranty claim.

I will be without a week or two though he said in the state it is on it's DANGEROUS.

No foot pegs just bolts no gear shifter and a wobbly back wheel he said the bearings had gone but I explained the spacer wasn't in one side he gave me a blank look?

I have been riding like this a while now.

I need to get the parts from Manchester to avoid paying £40 a side on brackets and pegs then there's the gear shifter.

The pegs were broken when I had was knocked off at a junction late last year by one of those cars with the four circles on the grill.
