I have a question and hope someone can help the needle was very slightly bent the spring clip was 2nd from bottom and the Haynes manual says 2nd from top so I've moved it. What effect would this have being in the wrong position??.

the needle in a carb goes in and out of the emulsifier tube. as you can imagine at full throttle at any clip position the needle is fully out, and the size of the main jet is limiting fuel flow. closed it's fully in, and the only fuel flowing is out of the idle or pilot jet.

so logically, given that it does nothing at high or low throttle, and also given that it allows more fuel through as it is pulled further out, what you have done by moving the needle up is slightly richen the midrange of throttle openings Thumbs Up

Cheers makes perfect sense, so the lower the ring the higher the pin sits with throttle closed thus letting more fuel through when closed rather than just using the other jets causing backfire every now and again possibly?
