Half ten at night and she's watching a weeks worth of soaps on the tele, stuff this im going for a ride Twisted Evil

Walk into garage, Fireblade or kmx? Decisions decisions Cool haven't had the kmx long so thought i'd go for a play on that.

kmx it is. Ten minutes later, im screaming along at 70ish, 8,000 rpm in top, impressed by the pull still left when u wang it open, then...

It all goes quiet, engine dies and back end feels all loose, snaking around followed by the sound of a knobbly tyre skidding. AT 70 Shocked Shocked It actually took me a few secs or so to realise it had seized Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Coast into bus stop. Try to start it, deffo not happening! No torch or tools on me (they're under the blades seat Rolling Eyes ). Phoned AA, told them i need recovering, don't take ages to send out a patrol for him to say "I'll have to arrange a tow for you" etc, told it could be 2 hours. That would of took me until 2.30am to get home. Evil or Very Mad Luckily, they send out a local recovery firm in half an hour

looks like my kmx "project" just got a whole lot more interesting.
Remember, keep those fingers on that clutch! Wink

I thought it was a brool story too.

If pulling the clutch in didnt free the back wheel, I was going down. But it did and I didn't

How much use has it seen? Has it been laid up for a while before taking it out and giving it the full berries? I have never seized a 2T and I have owned loads and still have a tzr250. When was the engine last built, mileage? Get the head and barrel off and let's have a look at the melted piston and colour of the spark plug (what may be left of it). That will give you the clearest indication of the cause.

I've only done about 500 miles on it since I bought it 3months ago. It hasnt been laid up while I've had it, been using it quite a bit. It was warmed up before giving it the berries too. 2 stroke tank was full, it's last rebuild was god knows when. It (did) have good compression, oil lines were bled through, new plug and air filter and fluids all round.

I was going to take head and barrel off when I first got it to have a look, but it was running nice so I didn't. And now its gone pop Rolling Eyes

Mine died quite suddenly and unexpectedly too, but on the overrun at under 30mph. TBH with KMX's i think once you get over around 16000m on the original un opened engine, your taking a chance of when and not if.

I would say that with any 2stroke the maintainence schedule and keeping them well serviced set up and tuned well is essential, if you want to ride them without worry. I personally would loose interest in 2strokes overnight if i always had to ride them with 2fingers over the clutch expecting it to lock up flat out in top. There would be no trust in them then and no fun in not knowing if you were going to get home on the bike or not or if it was going to throw you off etc.

As other's have said it aint no good on a 2stroke waiting until it rattles, smokes alot more or the performance drops off before doing an engine re-build. They can often run at their best when close to the wear limit on the internals and all maintainence should be pro active and not reactive if you want to enjoy them and trust them without fear of engine blow ups.
