I haven't been to Rothbury in years, looks good Last time I went there we really struggled to find petrol stations, that's what puts me off a bit and we usually end up at Hartside instead. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Yeah I wheeled the bike into the field (very carefully...would hate to be the first to drop it in its 12 year life!) and put the sidestand on a bit of wood, so it was pretty much out of sight of the road. Then pitched my tent out of sight behind a pile of haylage bales. It was an empty field with overgrown grass and an open gate so I figured it would be ok.
I kept warm enough in my new Gelert X-Treme Lite 1200 sleeping bag I bought to replace my previous terrible one, and I also bought an Alpkit Base 180 inflating mat which was absolutely amazing. There were a few cold moments in the night, but mostly I was fine, which is good going considering it got down to about 0 according to the MET office.
I've got a little Aldi solid fuel cooker but I didn't use it in the end, as I had dinner early and pretty much got into my sleeping bag as soon as my tent was pitched at about 8pm.
I don't usually do random insane trips like this one, but I had it in my head I wanted to get away this bank holiday and Cornwall was the warmest place on the weather map. So I stuck on my Tucano Urbano muffs and went for it. It was knackering but I don't regret doing it for a moment! ____________________ Riding: Does an Audi estate count?

Sounds a good bit of kit there.
Out of interest, what tent did you use? |
I've had this for a while. It's a bit of a faff to put up, but a good solid tent with a small pack size. https://alanrayneroutdoors.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/karrimor-beta-2-man-tent-review.html
I didn't pay £170 for it though, which seems to be the price it is online. Just checked and I paid £75 for it in a sale.

Thats on my list of routes to endeavor on this summer.
When I did bikesafe, one of the groups went around that way and came back saying the roads were a bit dodgy. |
Pretty views but covered in road salt and mud from the farm traffic, so I was taking it very easy. They've only recently had snow down there though so I might go back when it's warmer and change my mind. ____________________ Riding: Does an Audi estate count?

I had a very nice ride-out today with a few blokes from the Ride Hertfordshire facebook group.
There was a BMW F800ST, an R1 and last but not least, a mental KTM 1190 RC8.
Needles to say they had to reign it in a bit so I could stay in touch.
The KTM was just silly. The acceleration, handling and noise was like something from another planet, made me feel like I was back on my 125!
Some great roads which I'd never ridden before and had some superb weather, you could actually feel the warmth of the sun ffs!
I can also recommend number 3 on the menu at the Silver Ball Cafe. |

Have you got a link for that facebook group? Wouldn't mind getting acquainted with some people from around Cambs/Herts/N.London.
Think i've asked before actually ____________________ The mistresses: 2000 Honda CBR600f, 2000 Honda VTR1000 |
