Down the A6 into Manchester.
Not too bad considering how mingy the roads looked.

Hadn't been out on the EXC for a while so took it around Anglesey on the country lanes. Was nice being on an upright bike for a change!

Middle of nowhere.

Did 100 miles in a detoured loop from Guildford to Bognor to Petworth.
A285 + A272 were pretty clear of traffic and pretty with blue sky and trees with no leaves.

Was a bit nippy and a touch slippy in places. Still managed to get a bit brave on the way home, was enjoying the clear(ish) roads too much not to Smile

Completely forgot I'd only plugged the front tyre the day before. Oh well, seems to be holding Laughing

The planned 40-ish mile trip over the tops turns into 120 miles along the coast and back. Without going over the tops (because freezing). Oops.

Catch them at the right moments and they are fantastic. But normally just too busy. I'm thinking some 4am starts this summer or something.

I lived near Petworth for 11 years so know the roads around it fairly well, but really like the section from there to Winchester.

It's not Wales, but on the right time/day, pretty special Smile

Thought I'd try somewhere new. The usual, find a castle or something to aim for, then look for some bendy bits to get there.

Target set. Wallingford Castle near Oxford.

The cloudy + dry day contained 30mins of flooding, shivering and wet I nearly turned round but stubbornness / stupidity prevailed.
Good thing to, struck gold. B3349 between Hook and Shinfield was mega, and perhaps because of the flooded roads there were no other vehicles for 10 miles. Unheard of usually.
Waterproof gloves are not waterproof.

The castle, well.

Started off with a walk in
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_130658.resized_zps7smkd0yv.jpg

Which was a bit slippy
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_131008.resized_zps75s0ux1i.jpg

Then got more so
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_131219.resized_zpsxkx8eh89.jpg

After a bit of a trek and a few slips later, that little red circle is where I was standing, with a good view of the Castle.
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_131837.resized_zpstg6qam3y.jpg

And the castle was not at it's best
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_131843.resized_zpseponacsq.jpg

And the view from the other side. More open plan than I'd envisaged.
https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/170108%20-%20Wallingford/20170108_131900.resized_zpsj5njwgfn.jpg

Ride home was a bit meh, except for Bourley Road between Church Crookham and Aldershot. Brilliant little road!

On the plus side, the rain cleared most of the mud off the bike and boots

Note to self, do a tiny bit more research before setting off. If you don't have to pay to get in, or there isn't an onsite cafe, it's probably better to look elsewhere. Smile

120 miles.

Good method. Get yourself a copy of Hudson's historic houses and gardens Wink

Not always a reliable method in my experience - besides, if it gets you exploring new roads and countryside, often still worth it. But man, outdoor places of interest in the middle of winter! Shocked Suckerrr! Laughing Plus, a lot of them are closed November through March-ish.

Thumbs Up

A grey and wet winter Sunday morning is about the only time the roads down here are not crawling with other vehicles. So it does provide some smiles, albeit with added cold, wet, leaves, mud, low sun etc

At this time of year I tell myself I can't wait until Summer and when it arrives, I find getting anywhere is mission, just a constant battle against everyone else trying to get somewhere.

The trick is, I guess, to try and enjoy what each season has to offer and not get too bogged down in the bits I don't like.

Plus, last year I spent too much time tinkering / faffing in the garage, or cleaning. This year, keep it simple, ride more + faff less. Very Happy

Which kind of defeats half the object for me. Also, better weather will give you better photography on the whole, another big part of it for me.

Ride home this evening was interesting. I'll admit it was more slippery than I expected, was slightly thinking about the rock hard suspension I'd fitted and arrived home resembling the abominable snowman.

Probably get the train to work tomorrow Smile

Props to you for riding in that. I'd have got a cab home, picked up my van and come back and collected the bike.

Sensible choice would have been to get the train as its just 20 minutes extra + £5. But I wasn't born with many brain cells and have made it a life’s work to exterminate those few which remain Smile

Have seen plenty of BCF go out in proper snow on sportsbikes, so was fairly blase about this small smattering, up until I slipped twice walking across the car park. Shocked
