You've taken my post out of context though, haven't you? Pigeon is test riding new bikes, and suggested that he would be visiting the Honda dealer. My comment was made with reference to the current Honda range, and not models which have been out of production for well over a decade.
I've owned two Firestorms and I think they make a great sports tourer. Better than the VFR, in fact, by virtue of the V-twin engine and the simplicity/relative light weight. They're not especially focused compared with sports bikes, the power delivery is really quite soft with the standard exhausts/fuelling, and the suspension is budget (and feels it). But they're very well made (except the CCTs & grabby clutch), comfortable, exciting enough to be fun, and they offer excellent value especially on the used market. I haven't owned one, but my recollection of the CBR600FI is that it's a similarly good all-round package. Honda would do well to have bikes like those in their range today, but they don't.
I'd still say that almost all of the Honda motorcycles I've ridden have been overly refined and clearly less focused/raw/edgy than the competition, with the exception of the early Fireblades and virtually any HRC production bike.
The problem with the current Honda range is that (IMO) they're even more neutered in the pursuit of user friendliness and accessibility, and with the exception of the Fireblade, the quality of build and finish has declined substantially across the range. ____________________ Current: Ducati Panigale R / Ducati Streetfighter S / Suzuki GSX-R1000 L5 |

Perhaps your post was specifically about what young Pigeon would be finding in the showroom now. But as a phrase, sentiment, whatever you want to call "Hondas are boring", it's said by plenty of people and seems to be a blanket statement about the brand of bikes as a whole.
Which is mostly what my ramblings were aimed at.
I'm aware that Honda design their bikes with far less aggressive riding characteristics in comparison to the rest, but I feel labeling that as boring is a bit unjustified really. I think people want instant gratification without actually having to put the effort in to reap the fun.
I mean, I ride mountain bikes. But for me to get the fun I want out of them, I have to push myself, go faster and really go for it, else it's just rolling down a hill.
I think the same applies to motorbikes. Whilst it might sound a little cliche and naive but if you're not having fun on a bike, then you're not riding it right.
I had an NC750 for a courtesy bike a couple of years back, and I will admit it's one of the most boring bikes I've ever ridden. But when I wrung its neck 'til it wouldn't take any more, I had an absolute fucking ball! I even managed to spin up the rear wheel!
But anyway. I'm making a meal out of nothing I guess. People can put a label on anything, so long as I know i'm having fun ____________________ The mistresses: 2000 Honda CBR600f, 2000 Honda VTR1000 |

Had to give you a " cool" rating for travelling all the way down south to visit family, then avoiding them by doing the biker cafe rounds ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
