Not very exciting but nice to get out today.
No pictures of the trip as it was just a short blast from Ipswich to Colchester and back.
More of a Jaunt to clear the cobwebs out of my head and the bike.

Nurburgring.

*the upside down pics were taken with an underslung Go-Pro .. seems imagebox insists on putting them the "right way round" .. any answers to this problem would gratefully be accepted

I will post pictures later on, but in the last week we have moved from Austria to Slovenia. Stopped at Bled for three days and are now in Ljubljana. Roads are a mixture of brand new tarmac or severely cracked and/or potholes galore!

Another bimble about. Started as a warm, mostly sunny day.

Did a couple of back roads I haven't ridden before, down by Loweswater and out towards Ennerdale:

Can't seem to capture the colour of the heather-covered hillsides:

Then someone stole my sunshine, and it got cool and cloudy Sad

I found a good road from South wales to North, and here is a little detour we took.

UK looks so nice, it's just like the Land of Beer, but without the 35°C summers and -20°C winters.

The down side is we get lots of rain, all year round, as one low pressure system after another sweeps over us from the North Atlantic. Summer here tends to come in dribs and drabs; a few days of sunshine here, a few there. Winter tends to be similar, but more rain. We also get the jet stream winds sitting more or less right over us most of the time. If it goes north, we get sunshine. If it goes south, we get rain. Guess where it likes to be mostly? Sad

We suffered two showers, one Monday morning (when the forecast said torrential all day) and one Wednesday on the way home back in England. The weather in Wales was far better than we could have hoped, and it was the ideal riding temperature. We had a grand ol' time! The roads are smooth and well surfaced (apart from the one or two sections of surface dressing we encountered) and generally traffic free. I can't remember as much consistently good riding short of my tour in Scotland in 2005. Wales is a lot nearer to me, so I think that means we'll probably return at some point.

Oh, you're preaching to the converted here! I like it better than Scotland for pure riding enjoyment. Until I moved up north, I was in Wales almost every sunny weekend for about two years, riding there from Oxfordshire; couldn't get enough of the place.

Blimey I really am getting out and about on the bikes this year.
Today I had a couple of bits to do, so I chose a random village to go to the local shop.

I ended up around Otley in Suffolk, a nice little village with some SWeeeet B-roads around there Thumbs Up
https://t.imgbox.com/aA6Ejt0O.jpg
https://t.imgbox.com/x9ZOHsfI.jpg
Then onto the next village of Gretingham
https://t.imgbox.com/4jHflTBr.jpg
https://t.imgbox.com/k6ygjeKZ.jpg
Back along more sweet B-roads to Ashbocking and then on to home.
The sun shone and there were very very few cars were I was.

I found out when I got home that the plastic chain guide that protects the swinging arm had come lose Mad
The metal fixing that keeps it in place is tack welded to the swinging arm and it had worked lose.

Four bolts undone and after a practise weld on some thin metal, I was able to do my own tack weld in situ Thumbs Up
A large bucket of water was close to hand just in case I set fire to the bike Laughing
Everything went back together as it should and one happy Peppers Thumbs Up Smile

EDIT : if you click on the images, you will get a better picture Thumbs Up

Went out for a few hours and 90ish miles today from Hitchin to Bedford and on to the superb roads in and around the Kimbolton area.
My mate is really taking to his new bike, it's like the near 30 year gap between bikes have melted away.
A couple of screenshots of paused vids from my phone.

I meant to post up pictures from last weeks ride from Bled but forgot.

We left our apartment in Bled fairly early as it was forecast to rain in the afternoon, immediately out of the town you get into these tiny villages with roads that are too narrow to let cars through in both directions and houses are built up right next to the road.
https://i.imgur.com/3WhVq53.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/Wv5Co6j.jpg

From there we went to Spodnje Gorge which was more of a green valley? I was expecting something more..... Steep sided.
https://i.imgur.com/OhAezfE.jpg

There was a lovely fresh tarmac section of road with a few hairpins at the end of it but it ended in an industrial estate type area so we turned around and aimed for Bohinj Lake instead. This took us upwards through pine forests and was stunning! I wish I had my camera taking video rather than stills.

We brought some sammiches along with us so enjoyed them on the beach. The water was lovely and cool which was very refreshing as by that point it was starting to get really humid.

Lake Bled
https://i.imgur.com/LqsbKSL.jpg

We got back, had a shower and were getting ready to walk back to Lake Bled when the heavens opened and it rained hard. Then a crack of lightning that was too close for comfort so we opted for a beer instead. Top day, would do again!
https://i.imgur.com/TVfgaSY.jpg

From Bled we rode to Ljubljana for a few days of doing the tourist thing. We are now in Verona and heading to Interlaken tomorrow for more mountains and bikes.

We ended up camping at Lake Bled about a week and half ago, Slovenia was a complete surprise for me, I had no real expectations of it, but I totally want to go back at some point and explore more.

If you go back through Austria checkout https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Gro%C3%9Fglockner+Hochalpenstra%C3%9Fe/@47.11742,12.82745,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOpun12O3Yoay8xavSmWkDKWN0RXRmJFdG2owH_!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOpun12O3Yoay8xavSmWkDKWN0RXRmJFdG2owH_%3Dw129-h86-k-no!7i3648!8i2432!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sslovenia+meuseum!3m4!1s0x0:0x4e8ac687f588861d!8m2!3d47.1173946!4d12.8274822

Although it cost 25euro to do the pass, which is a total rip-off for us as it was in fog/rain/hail with about 10m visibility...
https://puu.sh/xfDn3.jpg
Start of going up the pass.

https://puu.sh/xfDiD.jpg
At lake Bled, tried to take some photo evidence to convince the mrs, that these machines are multi-purpose and yes I could use on for the garden.

It was super busy though, we had to go back down the road for a less busy camp-site than on the lake. Quite amusingly watched the most stereo-typical GS-rider walk into the 'German B&B' on the edge of the lake too, Full 'ADV' GS, schuberth helmet with full intercom, Matching BMW clothing to his GS.

Nice little bimble out today, more exploring the back roads. Found a couple of good bird watching spots, so bit of a bonus.

Wasdale Head still one of the most haunting places I've ever been. That's largely because every time I've been the weather has been terrible; but there is something about the blackness of that water as you come through into the clear and see it for the first time.

Haunted might be the right word. Ghosts of dead divers? Or gnomes...

England's deepest lake at 79m too, so no wonder it can look a bit black. I've never been there in bad weather, but have seen some interesting weather effects there. It's what draws me back to the Lakes again and again. My favourite I think is Ennerdale in the autumn, although you can't get a vehicle in to where the views are at; have to walk a few hundred yards from the car park. Much like Wasdale, there's really only one view, of Pillar in this case (one I've yet to climb - don't know if I'll ever be fit enough again now though Sad ), but watching the light change on the fells and the autumn trees...it's a mesmerising place, great place to take the camera:
