Any warranty?

Assuming around 4 litre capacity, over 10% in under 1k miles? Only bike I've ever had that lost oil at that rate was a Chinese 250. Hard to accept it's the intended consumption of an engine from a premium brand.

Though my Mini (BMW engine) burns oil at close to that rate but I redline it everywhere Laughing

It's just out of warranty. Surprise that eh Rolling Eyes Especially when the average R9T seems to do something like 1500 hipster miles before being parked up for the winter so you'd never really get to see the level of oil usage between services.

It's 'within tolerance' from what I've read, which is that some of them will do a litre every 1000 miles. That's all the oilhead engined bikes not just R9T's - as I say, there aren't a lot of high mile R9T's out there yet.

Everything I've read suggests they calm down after 12,000km's but I've no idea why that would be really - run in procedure can't be that long. But we'll see - I've just ticked over 5100 miles on it now, so 12,000km = 7500 miles. Got about 3000 miles to find out, I guess.

It's not a major worry for me as it's not excessive per se, it's just annoying that the sight glass is only 500ml and, therefore, you're low on oil at the end of a good weekend's riding. Not exactly premium feeling, that - especially since my Enfield has done almost the same amount of mileage, gets an absolute shinning most of the time from me, and uses barely nothing. Good job BMW Thumbs Up

More to follow. Annoyingly had to cut my route home short, Fazer started misfiring again at the end of the first day. Pulled all the leads and boots at camp, trimmed off the worst looking one, no luck. Going to throw a second hand set at it.

Fingers crossed on a cheap fix.

I'm toying with the idea of booking tomorrow off and heading here since the weather is supposed to be so good:

Looks fantastic. I can only sit and wait until the day I can 'afford' to move out of the shithole that is Thurrock Cum London and get some decent scenery right on the doorstep.

Yesterday Pigeon and I went on a 'last call for Summer 2020' type of ride setting off into the Essex countryside with Constable Country in our sights.

All packed up and ready to leave:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50340579271_ff3dbe7eda_b.jpg

A boring 25 miles or so before the roads start to open up a bit and we hit the far side of Maldon, into Goldhangar and on towards Great Wigborough before crossing The Strood causeway onto Mersea Island where I was hoping to get some Native Oysters, but alas no such luck unless we wanted to wait around an hour - nope, some riding to do today, so we opted for cockles and crayfish tails whilst we watched paddle boarders get soggy Cool

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50340578976_034c77c345_b.jpg

We then chopped through a bit of Colchester and up towards Halstead aiming at Chappel Viaduct:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50340734002_c276a27b0f_b.jpg

And then lastly headed through some smaller lanes to hit Constable Country itself, taking the B1068 towards Stoke By Nayland and onwards to Flatford Mill to see the Haywain.

At this point, we should have parked at the top and walked down, but other than a dead end sign there were no signs to say closed to vehicular traffic, so we took full advantage and just rode down the lane. Near the bottom, a busy-body came to tell us to turn around and go back to the parking area. I was playing polite with 'sorry got ear plugs in can't really hear you' whereas Pigeon just went 'screw this bitch, outta my way' and just launched it past her Laughing

The upshot was, cool shot of bike at The Haywain Thumbs Up

One last stop on the way back past Hanningfield for a break. Whilst there, a couple walking along past us had obviously gotten into some distress - the young girl had somehow lost her bra and other items of clothing that stopped everyone from seeing her boobies Shocked No pics though, soz.

Had a really good time and after a miserable couple of weeks at work, a day out on a motorcycle with yer mate in tow was a very welcome experience Cool

Early start for a ride out to Matlock Bath yesterday. Didn't really plan anything, just plugged it into Calimoto to see where it took me. A right random mix of roads as it turns out, quite a few of which I'd never ridden before (which is refreshing as I've lived next to the Peak District for 23 years). Sunrise wasn't quite as dramatic as my last ride, but it was still pleasant. Cool

Dawn raid to Snowdonia at the weekend; involved two hours of dark riding in 6 degree temperatures, but fortunately the Crossrunner has good weather protection and heated grips fitted as standard so it was actually quite comfortable, helped along by listening to 10CC then the Fratellis before diving off the A55. I aimed for Capel Curig and got some nice dawn photos of Snowdon before heading around to the Ogwen Valley where I took this photo. It's one of my favourite scrambles up the North Ridge of Tryfan. It looks more mighty than it is; it is doable by the average hillwalker if you've got a good head for heights.

Yes it’s quite a mountain. I’ve not been up it for years. Think that area has fallen (or is about to) back into lockdown so looks like I made it just in time!

Yesterday's run was great fun, not the best weather but still very enjoyable, trying to see where my limit is. A lot of amazing sections on this route would highly recommend.

Guildford -> Lydd / Camber Sands -> Dungeoness -> Beachy Head -> Brighton -> Devils Dyke
191 miles

Traffic was really busy which put a dampner on it.....as well as a couple of actual dampners.
Sausage and chips at Camber was good.
Stopped off at Beachy Head on way home and watched the sun set, but the best of it happened when on the bike.

Ride home was cold and 3 hours in the dark and stupidly managing to get lost in Brightons one way system. More about survival than enjoyment.

Taped up the headlight and position lights. Presented for MOT, went for a Subway and returned to this Very Happy

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50566915126_3fc8c34d2b_h.jpg

Celebrated this by getting the bike dirty. Total 50 miles around Salisbury Plain. Mix of metaled Byways, dirt/mud tracks and at one point I just rode through a woodblock (not recommended Laughing ).

Got used to the right hand gear shift and wrong way round shift pattern pretty fast. The bike is more capable than me and it happily pulls it's way up/through/over anything I tried.

CRF 250 rally?
They are a good all round bike for mild off road and winter riding.
I got the 250L about 7 year ago and I think it's the most fun bike I ever had despite being the most gutless and least capable on paper.

Got up really early this morning, I wanted a scenic breakfast and to hopefully get to Warminster if the range flags were down on the Imber road.

Had breakfast, coffee and crisps, fuel of champions.

The well known off road style of lie it down and slide with your hand out. Turns out compacted chalky clay with lots of flint is basically like ice. Also turns out old bullets are built like brick shithouses, so great in the no harm done stakes but feck me sideways, try picking the thing up on a steep slope, that's almost too slippery to stand on Laughing

It really is, I'm pretty lucky in my location. 100 meters and I'm on the Plain. Even falling off is fun, that pic of me sliding along with my hand out, I was laughing in my helmet the entire time Laughing

If you are tempted this is the seller I had mine from, pictures are a bit shit he has provided an assortment taken across 3 years. Picture 3 the solo 500 is in the background and stands in that trim now. The one in the foreground now has a sidecar attached. I've seen it start first kick and run, he was trying to convince me to buy it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Enfield-collection-please-read-update-in-description-below/124401102797?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
