Does anybody use a breakdown & recovery service for their bike and if so are they worth the money?
I had a problem a month ago and had to get a garage to recover it, they had it for a month during which time they went out of business Sad I finally got it back today.

I'm on a family plan with GEM at about £120 a year. It covers 4 people in any vehicle. I have called them out twice. Once to fix a problem, once to be recovered Thumbs Up

im with https://www.sos-motorcycle-recovery.co.uk/

they actually are trained bike mechanics unlike AA or RAC who mostly know about cars and always send the wrong truck to you if you need recovering hence why i left AA and RAC

https://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/

Auto Aid, £39 a year, self and spouse, any vehicle (some debate about 125cc and under bikes, but the actual contract doesn't prohibit them).

Then get phone numbers for whatever bike specific breakdown service you want, pay them whatever you need to up front by credit card, and get it reimbursed by Auto Aid later.

I get free RAC breakdown cover with my insurance through MCE, which I needed a few weeks ago. My wheel bearings went and I was 10 miles from home (just inside their limit) it took them 3 hours to come though.

i'm with startrescue.

They don't use their own vehicles they subcontract other recovery businesses I think, £30 for the year,

when the battery went on the 125 had no issues at all when they sent someone out from durham (20 miles ish away from where I was) took about an hour for them to arrive and then they took me back to my house with the bike (another 20 miles away) without a grumble, the driver was friendly and chatted about the bike as he hadn't come across a cityfly before.

They don't cover bikes 150cc or under:
https://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/autoaid/renewal.jsp
"Qualifying vehicles:
• UK vehicles only
• Private cars, car derived vans and motorcycles over 150cc. Motorised caravans will only be covered if they do not exceed 2.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight and 2500cc."

Otherwise +1 for Autoaid.
