Hi, I've recently bought a bike that has been sat in someones garage for donkeys years, now he doesn't have the V5C and says it was never registered in his name. I know the bloke well and he told me why it was never registered in his name, but will I be able to register the bike in my name without knowing the registered keepers details? Cheers

PS, the bike isn't stolen or anything, I've had it checked and it's all above board.

Have you got the registration number?

If you have, then fill in a V62 and apply for the V5

If you don't, then I'd hazard a guess you can still use the same form, just filling in the frame number - but worth contacting DVLA to see what they say.

Yeah I have the Reg, I've already collected the bike, just wasn't sure whether I'd have to bugger about trying to find out the current registered keepers details.

Nope, just apply for the V5. The DVLA will then write to their last registered keeper to let them know that someone has applied for the V5. If they get no response, then the V5 will get issued to you.

Yup, the DVLA love this. They want to know who the new keeper is, and they'll cream their pants over the "penalty charges" they can blackmail the previous keeper with for failure to notify. More fool him.
