Hi everyone i have an 08 Honda xr125 l6 and the battery suddenly failed to start the bike, had been fine 5 minutes ago but upon inspection i found the headlamp bulb low beam had also poped and that was fine the day before. Hope this don't sound too stupid but do anyone know if the charge from the geni runs through the headlight bulb like a fuse and if no bulb no charge?

I will search the Spanish pdf manual for help but i think that could take quite some time lol.

Thanks for any comment.

Steve

I found a plug with wires corroded on the right hand side by the air intake tube with wires not connecting, reconnected them and have now got battery charging "but the strange thing is if i rev the engine up it stops charging?

I will add pictures as soon as i can.

The pictures aren't very clear. However from your description I would guess that your regulator is faulty and providing too much power to the bike.

Thanks, i did think the reg was gone, i have a vid of the meter readings to see if that fits the diagnosis.

Those readings seem to be very unstable.

Can you try two things:
1) Perform a leakage test
2) Check the reg/rec disconnected from the bike

Leakage test, how to:
Disconnect battery (-) cable(s). Put multimeter red probe on the battery and the black probe on the disconnected cable(s). Set the multimeter to amps. Report back the reading. Reading should be 0, or very close to it.

Check the reg/rec disconnected from the bike, how to:
Look at the wires coming from the reg/rec. The connector block with 2 wires, disconnect this. Put the red & black multimeter probes inside the reg/rec side of the connector block, start the bike and take readings again on DC volts. Take readings at idle and about 5k rpm.

Sorry its taken me ages to get back to you, the wiring had a cable with white powder on it rotted out of the plug, fixed that and then charged the battery seems ok now (but in the middle of all this i stripped the geni from the engine and the case and checked it all and bought a new reg rect )

Thanks for all your help it was most appreciated.
