Last outing of the season I took first place in my class sprinting but snapped the big end like a carrot on my last run. We rebuilt and balanced the crank to 68% with an oversize big end and nailed her back together....
It has been a game of Snakes and Ladders rebuilding the Badger, Got her ready to run yesterday and put her on the rollers when I hit a snake, she did not even try to fire but spat a lot of methanol down my leg. It seems we made a boo boo building the crank and the valve timing was miles out even though I used the marks. I spent an hour with my timing disk this morning and got her to a degree of what it should be by reversing the half time gear so it was test time again.. Oh dear that valve cap has a snake on it in the shape of a previously un-noticed hairline crack. As she is through bolted taking the head off is not simple but I dropped the engine in the frame and replaced the cap and put her all back together again.
Got her on the rollers and went up a huge ladder! Poured methanol in one end and noise came out the other, The now balanced crank makes her feel very smooth, so much so that I could feel play in the steering head bearings (not noticed by a few scrutineers this year) I never gave her the beans but she feels good (bearing adjusted).
Coincidently my entry for Hoghton Tower Sprint next month came this morning, I am drawn number 47.

Wotcha.

Nice one.

We've got a new engine for this year - another Desmo/BSA - this time with a slightly bigger bore.
Ran it for the first time last Sunday - engine was fine but the gearbox needed sorting. No idea when the first "official" run will be.
