I have had my bike on the road for about a week now. Love this cold weather not... but i do love to cruise around.

I have noticed on the bike that the oil light is always on even though the oil has been changed by a mechanic(who i will not be returning to) and i checked it, it is at the right level + when i turn the bike on it reads "OIL" on the digital screen.

Is there some way to reset the digital readings?

I am still waiting on a battery to replace my dead one could lack of power be the cause.

My second issue is with the throttle response. Which is worse in while the engine is cold but does not completely go away when the engine is heated.

When accelerating the throttle the engine chokes (1-3 secs) (holds back on power during choke) then after it has regained itself will start to power on.

My guess it has something to do with the carb float or pin or something around there.

I have noticed it happens at all speeds especially going up hill and when at a junction from a stop position to go and often leads to a stall at junctions which is a bastard with no battery lol(having the choke on helps slightly but makes the bike rev higher.)

I will be going upto my uncle on Wednesday to take apart but i would like to know as much before then as i can.

The bikes idle needs adjusting(higher)/ i think there is a screw between the throttle cable and carb for this. As when i start the bike from cold it will tick over for random amount of time then die. However when it is warm it would tick over for anywhere between 10-60 secs depending on temp. This is also no good for junctions as i'm constantly turning the choke on for them to keep it revving higher.

Hi

On many Yamaha 4 strokes the oil light is an oil level light (not a clue about whether it is on your bike). So I would suggest triple checking the oil level.

All the best

The oil is definitely up to scratch meets the level required. I wonder could the sensor be broken.(in the haynes it says there is no oil sensor.) although now that i check there's no light indicator for the oil I had mistaken it for the fuel light. although it still says OIL upon turning the bike on.

It says this in haynes manual:
"There is no oil pressure switch or level sensor, and therefore no oil pressure or level warning light in the instrument cluster."

My bike must have built its own brain, cool.

I also read in the haynes manual of how to test oil pressure which i will do on Wednesday.

If it is saying OIL on the dash in capitals, that is just a reminder that the bike is at its next service interval, to get rid, hold down the odometer button (should be the only button)

Dont ride about with your choke on either, is it carbed or FI? if carbed just give it a clean and blow through both jets. See if that fixes anything.
