Hi there.

Has anybody got experience/info on whats required to fit "Ordinary" bars to a GT550 G4 or am I doomed to forever wander abroad with those contraptions originally fitted ?

They are the same set up as my GPZ. Shit.

Drill two holes in your top yoke and get a set of bar risers and bars to swap over. You may need longer clutch and throttle cables and pull the loom through to let the switchgear reach.

I think a Z550 top yolk might fit.

I was looking into that also but having dam skinny forks made the choice limited (37mm) also mounts for clocks and ignition may not line up. I am changing mine over winter and i bought a spare top yoke that had been drilled. Ill be looking for cheap 2nd hand risers and bars soon.

I think the z550 has the same forks.

There are also a few custom variations floating around that may do the trick from the z's. US imports all had normal bars as well i believe.

If its the bar hight the OP has a problem with. If you have an early GT some had bars that only sat about an inch tall. Some of the later ones the were risen to about one and a half inch, could have been two.

to clarify, the z550 and the customs(rather than the z550gt) used normal 3/8" bars.

As said to th eother bloke measure your stanchions. If the same as the donner ones from another kwak then it will fit. I would go gor the Drill your yoke option as the fixing bolt holes may be different from your bike to the donner one. If you have a spare few quid buy a 2nd hand one to drill so you can put your bike back to standard if needed.
