How many times do you balance your carbs?
I seem to have to do it every 6 months.
Is this normal?
Cheers

6 months is about normal for a zxr400 i usually do mine 3 or 4 times a year doesn't take long if you make a manometer with long pipes to go to the carbs

You SHOULD balance your carbs with even a change in weather, so this question really is "How many times do you BOTHER balancing your carbs?

Personally I will check the balance with a simple 4-guage set from ebay roughly twice a year (height of summer / height of winter).

Any sort of engine modification will also of course result in a balance/tune.

All depends on the bike other than that, some bikes are fussy and need constant balancing, others will run right for years. Rule of thumb would be if it don't sound/ride right it probably aint!

My ZZR1100 needs a carb balance with every 3k oil change according to the service schedule and it needs it by then.

My friends ZZR1100 needed the carbs balancing but not until we had done the shims, air filter and spark plugs. He was astounded by how much differance it made to the smoothness of the engine and how much easier it was to pull away from low revs once done

Pictured are the readings on my R1 but the results were similar Thumbs Up

Sorry to hijack.

I've owned my Cbr 600 for 6 years 30k miles and have never balanced the carbs. Is this something that should be checked as the bike seems to run fine?

Although I may notice a difference once done?

Another question to add to this, is it possible to do this using the bikes own fuel tank rather than hooking up a make shift gravity feed tank?

In answer to the last two questions, the only way to see if the throttle bodies need balancing is to plug the gauges in and to see how far out they are - if at all.If you pull the clutch in and any rumble from the bottom end smootes out or lessens, this might suggest that the balancing needs to be checked.

As for using the petrol tank while checking the balanceof the throttle bodies,if the system is pressure fed ie.fuel injected, you may well not be able to useanything other than the tank due to a return system if it has one.Otherwise, you could make a gravity fed system quite easily.
