I'f what I've learned so far has taught me anything, this has to be one of the coolest idea's ever.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR250rr-Frame-with-CB1-400-Engine-Fitted-Includes-Wheels-Tank-Forks-etc-/111017966030?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item19d92fb9ce&_uhb=1

at first glance perhaps,

however, is there space for the radiator to fit in front / above the engine? looks a bit tight.

Does,nt look likely though side radiators off a bike such as a VTR could be mounted, I would also be worried about the headers hitting the front wheel when the forks compress. Confused

That frame doesn't look radically different to the one on my NC29. - it might have better power to weight (but why use a CB1 engine when an NC23 would give you more go?) but then that looks under-tyred and under-braked too.

Seems like a curious choice to me.

Well, under tyred and under braked by today's standards, this wouldn't be an issue at all, I think. Thinking

I've ridden GPz550 with 110/90-19 on both wheels and it was alright, very easy to get into the corner + brakes were made out of butter, meassured by today's standards, 110/90 is what modern 125cc bikes use on their front wheel, right? Smile

CBR250RR's main attraction is a 1/4 litre engine with four cylinders, that revs to frequencies almost out of the audible spectrum!
Removing it, to stick in a de-tuned, every-man and his dog, poor-mans 600, lump, is like buying a Rembrant nude, throwing the painting away and putting an Athena poster in the frame!

I agree with Roger.

If it was any good and a viable proposition, it would have been finished and not on ebay as an unfinished project.

If it was what it promises to be, it would NOT be for sale. It would be being happily thrashed to within an inch of its life

Well, I'd prefer to have the high-revving CBR250RR engine in personally. Can't beat the sound of an IL4 revving up to 18.5k rpm.

Why would you stick a bland boring 400cc engine in?

Surely the whole appeal of a cbr250rr is the mental engine?
If i were a rich made i'd get 2 of the feisty little buggers and make a mission out of turning them into a 500cc V8. Fuck knows what i'd put it in but it'd sound like an F1 car so i wouldn't much give a fuck Laughing

I have to agree with the 'WHY' camp here.

I can see utterly no point in this at all. If you want a sports 400, buy one of the sports 400's. If you want a commuter, buy a commuter. Most of all, why buy something that is going to end up giving you a lot of grief to complete.

The seller realised he could buy the bike he was trying to build for half the price of building it, with a hundredth of the hassle. It's called a CBR400 Gull Arm.

Why Ruin a CBR250RR in this way? What kind of idiot would try to build a bike that they can buy off of the shelf?

A bit like trying to put a VFR750 engine in a VFR400R really.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

When I first took a bike totally apart it was an R6.
Went to pick the frame up and nearly threw it in the air - despite the fact it was designed to handle getting on for 130hp in World Supersport trim, it weighed very little.

Probably less than the CBR250RR frame, as it was a newer bike.

So I don't see the advantage it has - there is a slight 'advantage' in running a more powerful engine with lighter running gear designed to take less power - but I'd prefer to lighten a bike designed for that engine in the first place in most cases.

Prefer a 250 lump. The seat looks horrible. Doubt the CBR250 frame weighs much less? seems pointless.

Would be very interested to know how much a frame weighs?

125's steel frame?
CBR250
CBR400
CBR600 steelie
CBR600 F4 aluminuim
Or other bikes.

I dont think weight plays a big part, the wet wieght of my CBR6 is not that much more than a 125 really. The problem I think is how far that weight is from the centre line of bike?

Lol. You are joking right?

It weighs 50+ kg more than most 125s.
