Been trying to get onto the varadero forum but i've not been approved yet so asking here.

Has anyone fitted a larger (+1 tooth) sprocket to a Varadero to make it a bit happier on motorways? I'm not fond of running it flat out for long periods of time.

If so, did it affect acceleration much beyond changing up a bit later?

should I be altering the rear sprocket at the same time?

I intend to replace the chain when I swap the sprocket.

Cheers

I went +1 front and -1 rear.

Noticeable difference being the acceleration was affected, it also didn't really have enough juice to eek past 70.

Stock gearing does seem best.

I think you can either improve acceleration or top end speed( wee bit less revs) slightly but not both.

You increase one at the cost of the other I believe.

Im aware of that, i'm thinking that the method Paddy tried of +1 on the front -1 on the rear in theory should keep acceleration similar while giving a better top speed.

I'm looking at +1 front, stock rear and hoping that it isn't at too greater sacrifice of acceleration.

It's only going to cost me £5 for the sprocket to try it so going to go for it.

I think it only really works if the bike has some acceleration to give up on top speed. Works on bigger bikes, but smaller capacities will be limited Thinking What top speeds you seeing at the moment?

70 at the redline.

basically want to bring the revs away from the redline slightly while keeping with traffic flow on the motorway.

125cc = low bhp
125cc = low torque
125cc to 70mph = high revs (for a 4 stroke)
high revs = close to 'red line'

You are trying to break the laws of physics. If you succeed you will become a very wealthy man. Thumbs Up

If its of any comfort to you, I sat, on a daily basis, at 70-75 on my ever faithful Vara with it sitting near or on the redline with no ill effects

My TZR used to do 75-80 with about 3,000 rpm to spare. It also used to blow up a lot Laughing
