Hi folks.

Just bought this van off a mate.

It was standing for about 7 months.

Passed MOT with a few advisories.

However it occasionally rev's high for about a minute even when the engine is warm.

Any hints or tips to this or any other cub related things to look out for would be great.

Its a very tidy van for its age, and was dirt cheep. (apart from, it seems to have more of a thirst for diesel than I do for beer after work.)

Thanks in advance

Dweezil

Does it have a hand throttle and could this be turned up?

Check the throttle mechanism isn't sticking.

Could also be an injector sticking open? You getting a load of white smoke while it does this?

Cheers for the reply mate.

Not sure about the hand throttle?

Cables seem to run free. ( not that I know how it should feel, Only had it a week)

Could be the injectors, not really sure. I'm sh!t with engines.

It feels like an auto choke is kicking in whenever it starts even when warm.

Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers.

I had a Cub and I miss it, about 30 to the gallon is close to what it should be. BTW you can run it 50/50 on cooking oil, about a £1.00 a Litre if you shop around.

My brother had an LDV that had such worn engine mounts, it revved up whenever you put on the handbrake (because this moved the engine and tightened the throttle cable).

They were not built by LDV, it is a re-badged Nissan.

Cheers for the reply mate,
yep, looked into that one. deff up for it when it gets a little warmer.
Save the fuel pump a bit of stress.
Used to have a place in Nottingham but its shut down now.
My Pug 106 ran better on pure veg than on diesel.
Still not sure about the irregular high revs though?

Cheers for the reply mate,

The body and chassis is sweat. Is their an auto choke or the like?

I had that problem on an old petrol astra once, but that was a simple carb cleaner job

Could it be the idle control valve?

if it's been stood for a while, could just need a couple of long runs and some fuel system cleaner chucking in.

when I was at uni my car used to get used in the summer break and then laid up in my gran's garage until next summer.

it was always a little rough for a day or two until I'd managed to get a decent run in and it settled down.
used to tick over a bit high until it had been taken from wakefield to sheffield and back on the motorway!
