The projects on the way!

Well I got hold of a dummy Panasonic VCR today and have started my new pc project.

What I am planning on doing it sticking and old Celeron 500 into the vcr as a multimedia server. I will aim to have it networked wirelessly as an mp3 server.

The DVD drive will open up from where the video tape goes, and the eject button & Power button will relate to the corresponding PC functions.

The screen will eventually host one of those little screens which show the information, but at present I will but a cold caffode tube into it.


Here are a few pictures of some of the mods. The dvd drive will be the most difficult to attach correctly.

Why don't u up the spec a little and run windows media centre edition?
then you can do hard drive tv recording as well.
put a sff mobo and sata drives.
it's amazing how cheap the components are,

Or why not use an XBOX as the base...

If nothing else you should get a cheap wireless mouse and keyboard and a basic tv out gfx card in it.

Sounds like a fun project you got going on there, i might have an old laptop cd rom that would take up much less space, although the VCR case should have loads anyway.

Make sure you get adequate (quiet) cooling in there. thermaltec fans are good.
