Getting a thread started to show progress on the supermoto conversion.

Here she is -

https://img36.imageshack.us/img36/1097/p1220246.jpg

It's a 2008 model with some nice extras, plans are a supermoto conversion and tidy up. First job is to sort out the garage and get a place ready for the work to start!

Updates to follow...

Looking forward to seeing how this goes, good to see you're getting back on two wheels! Are you going to put it on the road or do trackdays etc?

Hi Rob Very Happy

It's been too long, almost 6 years without my own bike Crying or Very sad

Bike will be used mainly on road at the weekends for fun but also want to enter some enduros and freerides with WOR events.

Looks interesting, is it road legal at the moment or will it need registering and stuff? Should definitely get it on track once it's done, although I'm quicker on a sports bike I'm always suspicious that the guys on supermotos are having more fun than I am thumping round!

Just needs the lights hooking back up, the EXC's are road legal from the factory. I would be tempted to get it on track but it'd have to be a short, twisty one - this thing runs out of guts after 60mph Razz

No you don't, you need no lights for these...they look awesome without them.

Also 60mph on a 2 stroke 125, you mad bro? Adjust the gearing. My TT600R says it does around 85 on the books.. I've had it pulling away from a 100mph GS500F quite happily Laughing

Looking forward to this project coming along... SM wheels are quite expensive Sad

It's a shame Glan y Gors karting track don't do supermoto days (as far as I'm aware), I reckon a 125SM would be sweet around there!

Any reason for the 125 and not something bigger? I'm 99% sure you passed your test but understand if you're looking for more of the DT125 type fun you used to have Twisted Evil

I rode Llanberis pass a few weeks ago and then carried on down through Beddgelert and around the base of Snowdon. I had a load of fun but couldn't help but think something like a 600 supermoto would have been amazing!

Very good road that, had some fun times around that area on the bikes Very Happy

As for the 125...it's strange I've just always been drawn to it, it's a real wolf in sheeps clothing with quite a few advantages over the bigger bikes. And then there's the noise of a 2 stroke flat out, and the smell... Razz

High end 2t 125 = very light, surprisingly powerful, serious fun.

I once had a couple of shots on a worked over open class RM250 supermoto. I have never ridden anything scarier, and that includes my tubby bandit.

"supermoto build"... Does a supermoto really class as a build? 2 wheels and 15 minutes later... Oh, a wild supermoto appeared. Yet, it has been more than 15 minutes... are you struggling?

To do it properly, it will need a smaller rear sprocket,
Forks will need shortening, and re-working for tarmac.
Rear end needs lowering,
It will need a big front braking fitting.
Axle bobbins (Granted, they are optional),
Smaller front fender (Again, optional),
Wrap around handguards as apposed to those wafty plastic ones

Caliper bracket, wheel spacer and some tyres and then I can get going again. In fairness I should have delayed the thread until I had all the parts together Thumbs Up

Anyway, KTM porn soon...

I know you really want firmer suspension with less travel on a dedicated SM bike, but you lose some ride height and ground clearance with 17" rims, and so making the forks shorter and lowering the back end could make the bike sit too low depending on how tall and how much travel it had in endure spec.

I'd like to make the front and back ends firmer on my KMX, but I don't want to lower the bike much if at all, as I think it would ruin the looks and useability of the bike too.

How do most people go about shortening the suspension travel without the above problem?

You going to need to stiffen up the front forks a load, they come waaaay too soft from the factory even for enduro IMO.

Jeez I forgot about this thread Shocked decided against the supermoto build in the end, especially once I realised how many awesome green lanes there are in this area and the KTM just loves them.

I guess this means end of thread Laughing
