2000 Fazer 600, get's on it to go to work yesterday and it's gone a bit grumbly Mc Grumbleson.... starting to sound like Mr Yaigi's Fazer with it's sieve of an exhaust system Honeymoon period over.
So I got a mirror out and had a look underneath in the light this morning and there's just this one tiny little hole, not even big enough to put the end of a screwdriver in, but nevertheless, it has begun..... the inevitable rot of the Fazer downpipes.
So I ask you, BCF, what next? Do I just bite the bullet and get the whole lot replaced as soon as is financially possible? Or given that it's such a tiny hole is there some kind of fix? Do I just wait til it gets worse? I mean, for such a tiny hole it sounds bad enough to me as it is.... I want me lovely smooth sounding bike back really.
The rest of the downpipes look so perfect (so much so I thought they were quite new when I got it and assumed they had already been replaced but must have been wrong!), seems mad that a tiny hole means the whole lot need to go
Diagram of where the hole is on this lovely pic of these lovely shiny downpipes:

To be fair, I'd be tempted to take the whole bike to a welder, and just get someone to spot weld it. Or maybe put a patch over it. Should be able to get access on the sidestand!?
Definitely worth doing seeing as you said yours still look like new elsewhere. And shouldn't cost much (probably a tenner!). I found a guy who refurbishes old VW buses and he does my welding mega cheap. ____________________ KAWASAKIIIII |

My Dad owns a garage, he's a welder..... but I'm tempted to take it elsewhere as he doesn't have the greatest track record with my vehicles, it's like he doesn't give a damn cos he aint getting paid or something And for £10 to £20 it's probably worth it, I'd end up wasting the day at my Dads garage making tea and coffee ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

It would probably weld up ok, but if the metal has thinned a lot it would just blow through. Best to tig weld it and that's not cheap! ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

BMW is for the more refined gentleman.
I've heard Mr is a bit rough around the edges, enjoys motor boating and has a tendency to tap the fandango down the high street.
Man needs a Virago. |

Ahahaaaaaaa, first of all OI! - I'm 30 this year too! Second of all, Mr Yaigi shaved his beard off last night, much to my dismay, I don't think he'll ever own a pair of slippers, and the only pipe he'll be smoking is that which contains weed As for his future choice in bikes, well, if anything he'll be going all 90's racer - he was sooo close to buying one of these a few weeks back:

he does like to feel like he's in a computer game when on his bike... ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

Excellent thanks for that I did have a look on ebay but I was on work at the time so it wasn't a 'proper' look.
Paddy - I told Mr Yaigi about your YZF and he said he doesn't want to swap his Fazer, he wants to keep that as well - if you saw the size of the area we keep our bikes in you would know how much I laughed at him for that. Next house needs a garage.
Sidewinder - I don't even now what a self tapper is. Daughter of a mechanic you'd think I'd know some stuff but what it has basically meant is that I've never had to fix my own vehicle and I got damn good at making tea and coffee and having banter with blokey garage folk. I would actually have a go of either this or fitting my own downpipes though, I know my way around a toolbox and I can read, can't be that hard if baby Paddy can do it ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?
