Hey guys,

This post is way overdue but I've been way too busy recently and had to go the last 6 or 7 weeks without my bike Sad. She's not starting up.

She's had a new battery, and issues first began in the cold weather just before the snow arrived in January. Literally the day before she stopped working, I'd done a 320 mile round trip to Kent and back to pick up a friend, and had no problems.

So here's what happens when I try to start her:

Key in the ignition
Push the starter
Here the engine try and turn, followed by what I can only describe as a "grinding/clicking" noise (see video)
Take finger off the start because she clearly won't start up

I've had a friend who's a mechanic take a quick look and he thinks it's probably to do with the starter motor. I've got a couple of spare spark plugs and plug caps that I'm going to try (when bike was serviced the guy put new plug cap on but said he wasn't confident with it). It's not a case of "Oh, I'll ask BCF before trying anything", I just need to get hold of the right socket to swap the plugs first Smile.

Just wondering if anybody has any ideas or seen similar issues?

Video will be linked here once it's finished uploading.

EDIT: Recorded but camcorder isn't being recognised on my PC, will reupload with a video from my iPod as soon as I can Smile

Thanks,
Liam

That clicking noise is the starter motor trying to turn over but hasn't got enough power, it might also do this if its sticking, not sure about that. Try tapping it with a screwdriver etc..

Also make sure the battery is charged.

My gpz used to randomly do this too, i used to just take the seat off and wiggle the wires about etc and it would work again. never did find a proper fix tho lol

Try cracking the starter motor with something like a rubber mallet, then try starting it. Had same issue with my GPZ - starter motor was on its way out. (If it works then, it means yours is on its way out, or is dead).

Could also be low power on battery.
