Good morning all.

I found out 2 days ago that my nan ( my dad's mum) is going into hospital today to have a double mastectomy. We found out she had cancer year before last, it went and I imagine its back again if she is going through this. ( her words were ' I dont need them any more' )

My mum's mum had breast cancer 16 years ago, had a boob off went through treatment an had the all clear for 10 years before it came back in her bones. Sadly she passed away in 2008, I still get upset thinking about it, all the things she didn't get to see.

I want to stay strong for my nan today when I go and see her this evening but I don't know how I'm going to manage it.

It is very traumatic but make sure when you go to the hospital that you visit the patient and not the illness.

There is nothing you can do to contribute towards her medical care, that's the job of the hospital. What you can do is help with her recovery by keeping her spirits high.

Try taking some amusing stories from the day's news etc. Smile

Thank you.

I just don't know how I will manage because when my other nan went in hospital I was only 6 so I wasn't allowed to go.

I'm the only one who is going to see her too, not one of her own kids is going to visit, my mum, brother and sister cant because it was too short notice to get time off.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that.

Totally agree with Cimbian. Try and keep her spirits high and don't feel daunted by visiting her, feel excited. After all, she's still with you and some people never got that luxury Thumbs Up

I have just had a phone call from her, she's excited that I'm going to visit, obviously a bit sore but seems quite happy.

Thank you for your kind words, I sometimes find it easier to tell people I dont know so I'm sorry if it feel like im telling my life story.

Don't worry about that...a problem shared etc...

Just have a right good natter with her, it'll certainly give her (and probably you) a good boost.

I've just got back in from visiting.
When I walked into the ward an she saw me her face just lit up! Its the biggest smile I have seen from her in years! Very Happy Very Happy

She is a bit sore, after having left breast off and lymph out but thats to be expected. Had some bits sent away for analysis and she has to go back in 2 weeks for the results, so fingers crossed all is ok!

We talked about everything from work to how im getting on with my new moped, other family and when she's next back in hospital.

Thank you all!
