So, she ordered me a duvet, 2 pillows, 2 sheets, and 2 sets of pillow and duvet covers from Tesco.

She kept her name on the delivery and it is confirmed to have been received by next door on Thursday. I told her to chase it up on Saturday since I did not get it.

I went next door to check on the delivery, and they denied it came. Tesco got back to my GF today and confirmed it to next door.

Is there anything I can do, or are we just going to have to take it on the chin?

I think if the name on the delivery was under mine, the neighborus would have given it to me, but since my GF put her name (She doesn't live with me), the neighbours just kept it and assumed it was a total random person who made an error.

I think that there is nothing I can do, but if there is any chance, maybe one of you could give some advice. Just trying to save money by not ordering again because money is tight ATM.

Was it a signed for delivery? If it was, then they'd have had to have signed for it.... If they've signed some pony name for it then that's thieving post.

Of course it does - if they intend to permanently deprive. If the cops bang on next door they could just say they were playing a joke and hand the stuff over and there's little they could do to prove it otherwise.

If Tesco are sure it went next door but they deny it just call the cops and report a theft.

What about the fact that it was our fault that the house number was on their address?

If they are not the person on the label then they are lawfully not allowed to open it. At a previous address the landlord 'mistakenly took' my housmates mail from the DVLA. He then refused to give it back, and when he did eventually give it back, it was returned open, with him 'accidentally' opening it because he thought it was addressed to him.
For a miss delivery then I was under the impression you had to send to mail back to sender.

Makes no odds at all. They know if something is theirs or not because they would have ordered and paid for it. If it isn't and they take it for their own - that's theft.

Pop back round.

"oh, definitely not here? OK, I'll have to call the police then as someone had obviously stolen the stuff"

Bit of luck they'll be the sort to bottle it and hand over your pillows.

Tesco say they will try and get it back from her. Good service that they are trying to do that. I'll see how it plays out.

To me this is a grey area due to the Unsolicited Goods Act.

Have a read - https://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nireland/consumer_ni/consumer_common_problems_with_products_e/consumer_problems_with_delivery_e/consumer_unsolicited_goods_e/youve_received_goods_or_services_you_didnt_ask_for_distance_sales.htm

As the delivery was to their household (and address to their house number), I have a feeling that act might apply.

Wouldn't apply since the name would be wrong, and since the name would be the neighbour's, and they went round asking for their goods, that would be enough to make it apparent what had happened. Since they say that 'nothing has been delivered' that would be theft.

It doesn't matter if it's apparent that a mistake has been made, or that they fibbed. If the goods are sent to you and you didn't ask for them you can keep them. The only question is whether an incorrect name would invalidate this. I personally doubt it, as the goods were sent unsolicited, and addressed specifically to their household. IMO it's a huge defence to a theft charge and probably allows them to keep the items.

'Delivered to you' isn't the same as 'delivered to you pretending to be someone else'. Someone has had to lie in order to receive someone else's goods and that's a deceitful act.

I remember ordering some expensive curtains once and they didnt get delivered so I phoned the company and told them and they said theyd send another pair out, i didnt get them either.

Phoned them again and they said theyd been left in my outhouse so when i checked, there they were with the original pair that had been in there from the beginning. I kept them thinking woo hoo as i had just bought a house with two large windows in the one room.

Then after i moved karma kicked in, the new tenants stole my identity with the company and ordered a shit load of stuff in my name and i spent months trying to prove it wasnt me. I have never done anything like that again.

Whether its right or wrong in the eyes of the law is besides the point.

My neighbors have just changed (old tenant out, new one in)

With the old tenants, we got on quite well. They were quiet and kept themselves to themselves, but were more than happy to accept, parcels, clothes, even car bits that me and SWMBO ordered on line if they were in and we were out, and we did the same for them.

I hoe the new ones are as happy to, they seem ok so far.

I'm not suggesting a need to be best friends, but being able to be socially responsible, being able to live near other people without hassle, and having neighbors who are happy to keep the odd eye out for each other seems to be something which is declining fast in the UK, and we are a lot worse for it.

Why not ask them what the hell they are doing?

They are shitty neighbours.

Daughter left at age 15 one of two years a go and use to play loud music. We would ask her to stop every so often if it got pass 2 AM on a week day.

The son at age 10 didn't have his dad until last year and just got out of prison. I buy him chocolate here and there. He once stepped on dog shit in his garden and jumped over to mine and rubbed it on my paving, I saw him and blasted a little verbally. We got 8 foot fencing to stop him climbing over.

The mother seems like a nice woman to be fair, says hello, but a filthy type.
