Standalone 1Tb Media Players which attach straight to the TV

Guys, I appreciate this is a biking forum but there seems to be a fair few amount of you that know your techhie shit.

Basically, I'm looking for a Media Player to run films and stuff direct from it's hard drive to the TV.

A friend suggested the Cyclone 1tb system but said the software was "clunky", whatever that means. I also see CnM do a system but that also has mixed reviews.

Anyone on here use either system or an alternative?, I'm looking to make the wife's life easier when entertaining the nipper at home, so I want a system that's self sufficient once files have been copied over...

I will suggest a slight alternative on the cyclone system but made by the same people.

You can probably get this down to £22 odd if you shop around but it's a cycle micro 2+ device.

Couple that with an external 1TB HDD (plugs in via USB) and you have a very capable player. I have one of these, recommended them to my parents and sister and not had a single issue.

I know it's not all contained in one unit (have to plug HDD in) but it really is simple. Box goes in to TV via HDMI and HDD in to box via USB.

The only cons with the cyclone series is:-

Controller is a bit flimsy and sometimes have to point it directly at the box head on or it doesn't register what you're clicking.

If you have hundreds of files in one folder, there's no search. You have to scroll down to find your stuff.

Other than that, can't fault them. I would never recommend DVD/Bluray players to anyone when you can store hundreds of your films on 1 drive.
