So apparently, police in the area I live in can no longer peruse motorcyclists because it's to dangerous.

What's the point in me even having a number plate on.... they can't chase me if I drive off?

Because they'll put you (or your bike) on the 'wanted' list and one of your neighbours will grass you up.

Laughing peruse

I often thought about this..

what's to stop me buying something stupidly power-full like a ducati or a R1 and just out-running the police when I need to... who is going to stop me??

Apart from me of course when I hit a tree and die.

Nothing to stop you buying and insuring a 50cc scootay and sticking that plate on your R1 boss.

Obviously registered keeper/insurer of the scooter (with swinton, no proof of ID req'd) is in el Polski Lolski name and fake address.

Come at me bro.

"But officer, my licence plate was still on when I left this morning and I thought you had your lights and sirens on because you heard over the radio it was happy hour at Krispy Kremes". Thumbs Up

I had to ride 20 miles home from work with no licence plate once, because the screws had come off that morning and was too tight to pay Halfrauds prices for plates. Had a panda car pull out from a side road right behind me and continue to drive behind me for a couple of miles, they didn't so much as try to flag me down. Guess the h&s police have been rogering them...

You may find that this information takes some time to filter down to the (very) rank and file. If they fancy a chase, they'll have a chase.

I know it's just fantasy jawing, but if I worked in That London then I might not be so strictly bothered about whether I had a plate that was registered to me. Sauce for the unregistered, unlicensed, uninsured pedalist goose and all that.

My number plate has fallen off, broken off, or part broken off my XR a few times.

I really must get around to paying out for a metal one that I can just bend back into shape.

Police fiat pandas aren't supposed to chase people either. Doesn't stop them.

I always remember a crime some guy was running away from, a civvie rammed the biker off the road (and went over him), biker got put in a wheel chair and imprisoned.

Whats to stop them saying he braked suddenly? Then press the deletebutton on the cameras?

Similarly - think few will chase a bike if the rider has no helmet.

Which of course, is often the case with stolen bikes Rolling Eyes.

Not yet - but if they manage to stop a bike with radio waves I suspect there's going to be some serious collateral damage to bystanders!

So, with them not actually chasing the bike, the best they can do is know the bike's gone off in a specific direction; possibly then report again if it's seen again, for them to again not stop it.

Maybe a case when drones will actually be useful?

Just a quick news from abroad, here from January 1st 2013, there's no way, yet, how to get away. The police won't chase you, they just get the licence plate of the vehicle and send you a post-card with summons. Well they will chase you, but not if it's dangerous, anyway as the owner of the vehicle you're fully responsible for anything that happens with it, except if it was stolen.

Which means the fine and loss of points. There is a way how to keep your points and the solution is, to say that you did not drive the vehicle at the moment, but your ''close person'' did with out your permission. Well you're still gonna pay the fine. I'm working on it Laughing

Before that, you just said that ''close person'' drove your vehicle and there was no way the police could persecute you, even if you did 180mph in a 30mph zone and they had tons of pics and videos, who got away, won Thumbs Up

Given that driving standards are enforced with an iron fist by traffic, and a driver can end up getting a grilling for going over a speed bump too fast, I think you'll find that pursuits are pretty much by the book 99% of the time.

That's E&W, of course. Up in Scotchland, they'll just claim the rider's committed a breach and will run him into the ground lest he's seen to be having fun.
