Part one is good so far, would like some more challenges though. Hammond's car is awesome for £1500!

I bet there's some Subaru drivers weeping into their pints at the moment, they do nothing for used car prices when they rock up with their bargins!

Subaru owned that episode.

Didn't know you could get a proper WRX Impreza for so cheap.

Fair play to Hammond that Subaru was an awsome buy for the money.

Could tell Jeremy was a bit like 'oh shit' when he rocked up in it lol.

Weird thing is for £1,500 James could have easily got a V70 XC and had AWD as well, i'm guessing the producers specifically told them to get unsuitable cars though to make the show more entertaining...

The producers will have said quite a lot more than that. Starting with "Here is your car, have you read through the script?"

When they had that Tesla roadster electric car on they simply pretended it had run out of power 'for entertainment purposes'. After that car companies started fitting the electric cars with tracking devices. On the top gear test of the nissan leaf, which was obviously given to them with a full battery, the data logs showed the top gear crew driving the thing in circles for ages to run down the battery so it would run out at the right place.

The theme of the show, cars and conclusions are decided in advance. They decide nothing about the route on the fly, it's all planned out. They pretend things are broken, or break them themselves, then they pretend to be unable to fix them etc etc

Just like clarkson claims never to ride bikes and to tally hate them, yet here's him riding a moped:

To be fair - that was before the Vietnam special.

But yes, all horribly scripted - and anything not so predictable, it might as well be.

I still watch it.

Oh and irksome - for a long time I've liked the idea of converting one side of a car in to a bed for a mini-camper. (Say something like a Fiesta diesel for seriously cheap and hassle free touring.)
Now people will presume I'm just copying them if I ever do it Sad.

Still, it's better than strictly cum masturbating, Britain's got talentless a***holes, Eastlosers and the rest.

Couple of things made me laugh

'Ive had another cold shower and my penis looks like a press stud'

But not that much actually happened and I'm sure that it could have been an extended show rather than a 2 parter?

Do they actually get these cars for the amount they say or buy a similar car for what one person has bought a car for on the net?

One of the contestants on Popmaster today said that he was the previous owner of the BMW and couldn't believe it when he saw it on top gear. Even mentioned something about the door being replaced not long before it was sold and now it has a hole in it.

Movies are scripted, soaps are scripted, Top Gear is scripted, who cares.

James May even said in an episode after cross country race something like, 'When we normally do races like these, we do purposely make the finish as tight as possible, but this one was genuinely that close'.

And the most obvious tell tale signs in almost every episode, on a drive or something where they have to make an unexpected turn/diversion, there always happens to be a camera man at the side of the road they didnt intend to go on...

The more important bit to note here is that "fly on the wall documentaries" are often scripted too.

Which is ok, but it gets boring when you've got the same scripting style across many years.
It becomes considerably less entertaining.

I thought they said that half the time - part of the scripting, no doubt Wink.

My issue is that top gear isn't trying to be a soap or a light entertainment comedy show - if it was billed as that, fair enough.

Well, they stuck to the formula. You know what you're getting.

It's not a documentary though, and there's no reason to believe that they actually spent £1500 on the cars, any more than that they really sat in that mental traffic overnight.

I did like May's library and tool shed, splendid work.

Sounds about right to be honest. Embarassed

I bought a Bugeye 2 years ago for £6000 and sold it a few months later for £2700 after spending a fortune on it - timing belt, service, tyres, the usual.

I would say £1500 for a WRX Bug Wagon is about right going by today's prices if you buy from auction - unfortunately Mad

As soon as Hammond turned up, I said "he's got this in the bag". But did you see the preview of next week, looks like he smashed it up pretty bad.

He was giving it the beans everywhere.
