So my alpinefarts jacket is totally not waterproof and I'm havin a nightmare with the company.

Also tried nikwax and gold something and no luck, still leaks.

So a quick search turned up this:

https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/on-road-gear-motorcycle-jackets/5012-black-sports-motorcycle-jacket.html

30 quid with a promo code and next day delivery.

Didn't expect much but tbh I am really impressed. The lining is thicker and stitching is better than the alpine one. Also the outer layer is much better than I thought. Checking the Armour and are both the same too!

Put it under a shower covering a jug for 10 mins and this is what came of it:

Alpine stars : just under 100ml of water
Black: not a sausage

Pretty impressed I must say. Obviously this is only initially but even if it only lasts 6 months I will be a happy bunny Thumbs Up

On inspection 2 other guys from my work has also ordered it. One has a new Richa one and on comparison the black is a much better quality

I have a pair of their boots and I am impressed. Vented so during the summer my feet dont sweat. Never ridden with them on in heavy rain but they seem to stand up to showers etc. Comfort is great. They are more comfortable than my Spyke boots.

I've learnt that kind of test isn't worth doing, I've bought loads of things that a proper waterproof for a couple of weeks or so, but lose that property when worn a few times. The only test is time worn.

I have a Black jacket too, brought it as basic starter gear yet struggle to imagine anything more expensive doing any better.

Only 2 negatives
First is the low collar. It's not obvious as first, but if you don't put something between your neck and the jacket, wind chill eats away at the back and front of the jacket.
Secondly, not a big one ... No that it's. Laughing The phone pocket isn't big enough for my phone, So I have to decase it. A minor point.

Thumbs Up

As for the test of time
You can see from my join date the rough time I got into riding. So almost a year now & having gained my Licence in November I didn't plan on waiting for good weather.
It's been out in varying temperatures and weather type, I'm definitely not a fair weather rider. No Leak, no tear, no zips falling apart.
Form and function, I got really lucky with my first jacket Very Happy

To be fair phones are getting larger and larger again recently. I'm currently using the S2 and its the biggest phone I have had since the nokia days, if anything its bigger. Just thinner. The phone pocket on my jacket (RK Sports Cheapy) is just big enough for the S2. Wouldnt want to try anything bigger in there.

Thanks.

Its good to see a company making a good piece of kit without acting like its rocket science and adding 100's to it.

Yeah I noticed the phone pocket too

I bought a Black jacket like this last year (the summer version) and for the money the look and fit are second to none. Only time will tell regards quality but I can't see any problems so far.

As someone else said...the collar is low so unless its really warm you need something round your neck.

Thanks, looks alright too! I've needed a new one for three years and instead wore waterproofs over my gear.

Ordered! Very Happy

That's cheap.

Anyone know if the sizing is on the skimpy or generous side?

I am usually a medium in cloths.

Found the alpine stars were a bit snug on the M so ordered a L in Black. More roomy but not too big.

Seems as tho a M would of been a perfect fit but I wanted it slightly bigger so it didnt ride up. If you want your exact sizing I would go with what size you get normal jackets etc.

May have to try one of these! My AVG is the best value jacket Ive brought!

I brought it new from eBay in 2006 when I brought my R1. I picked it up from the supplier as it was local as well.

Only last June I had to treat it as it wasn't fully waterproof. Washed in the tech-wash proffer which cost about a fiver.

And then just before Xmas I needed to get a new zip and popper fitted. Cost of £18.

I paid £50 for the jacket. so cost for 7yrs use works out around £10.50 a year! Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Only small issue with it now, is that the inside pocket lining has a tear.

Yeah I got a Black jacket for my lessons that I started in January and it's been really good, this one:

https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/GhostBikes.com-Brands-Black-Jackets/5008-black-argon-motorcycle-jacket.html

Got it as part of a deal with pants too.

Haven't really tested the waterproof ability of it but it's kept me warm even on 70mph roads, with just a normal long-sleeve underneath!

Can't fault it for the price really.

I am really surprised to read all this praise because,
the duchini helmets i had from Ghost bikes fell apart . the boots with ratchets i had fell apart and one broke the zip next day and ghost bikes refused to replace them .

then the replacement duchini helmet I got for Danielle the blue tooth radio packed in and the first one was replaced no question but the 2nd time they stopped replying to emails .

So Ghost bikes dont exactly fill me with confidence,,,, oh I forgot my very first pair of boots I got from them fell apart after six weeks,,, they were ankle boots but with canvas and leather bits and the canvass fell apart ... oh and Danielles tech 7 gloves also fell apart so I was wondering if they just sell copies or knock offs,,,, Utter crap so far everything I have had from them .. so if they have got something decent in that is actually worth what you pay for it I wonder if they are under new management ?

The crash helmets the ls2's That I got from them have been spot on , One saved my head in a 40 impact with the tarmac and the other was donated to a guy who just trashed his SHARK helmet and his THUNDERCAT up on the snake.
heres hoping fingers crossed
